Liver tonic and metabolism booster

Posted by SAW on August 31, 2004, at 8:58:50

Would anyone be able to offer advice on an effective liver tonic (alcohol abuse) and a metabolism booster that could be used in conjunction with a calorie restricted diet?

Thanks & regards
Sabrina

Absolutely. Milk thistle. See: http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/epcsums/milktsum.htm

Conjugated linolenic acid (CLA). Chromium. Fish oil.

You're welcome. Ask as many questions as you'd like.

Hi Larry

I will check the site out later. (& get some milk thistle) Thanks.

In the mean time, I have tried CLA & chromium picolinate (?) with little success. I have a cocktail that I take at the moment of:
1. Buchu
2. Lechitin
3. Kelp
4. Omega 3 & 6

All in capsule form. I still have the metabolism of a slug, actually a slug's might be a bit faster. I am not excessively overweight but am a bit unfit and need to start an excercise program. I have a balanced (sometimes a bit sparse) diet and drink plenty of water. I am desperate to lose weight but am just not getting it right.

Any suggestions and if I'm wasting money taking the above?
Thanks again
Sabrina

PS: I take 150mg Efexor and Ginkgo Biloba daily

Larry can you help with above? (nm) » SAW

You almost certainly do not need any more omega-6
than your diet already provides. Any additional sources you have will, in part, counteract the benefit of the omega-3.

You should be consuming good quantities of B-vitamins. They're almost impossible to overdose on, but they are the "Energizer bunnies" for your enzymes.

For simple energizing, you might benefit from trimethylglycine (TMG), also known as anhydrous betaine, or betaine freebase.

I don't know anything about Buchu. Lecithin can make some people feel sluggish.
