In addition to the charming psycholigical crap I have been dealing with lately, I also have come to find that I have a cyst in my right ovary and possible polycystic ovarian syndrome.
I have been told by my p-doc that natural progesterone cream is the way to go. Well, he also told me this 2 years ago, hoping that it would alleviate some depression. I dont' know it it was the brand or what, but it did not work. So why should I imagine that it will work now???
Does anyone use this and have a brand that they recommend? There is just no way of telling if you are getting the real thing or just an expensive moisturizer!
Thanks,
Diane

In the US most seem to find
http://store.yahoo.com/outletnutrition/645951810034.html
ProgestaCare (PCW-04)
All Natural Progesterone Cream by LifeFloand I think that is the cheapest place to buy to according to most too
supposedly works well (from hundreds I've heard)..the pump makes the dose more accurate too
I liked the ingredient list too last time I lookedHaven't tried myself..not available over here
In England I got some Pro-Gest(www.emirata.com) in England on script (script not needed in the US)..and the Pro-Gest is pretty powerful stuff compared to what I get the chemist to make up here in Oz...so I can recommend that one too.. its made in the US, but the dose is hard to judge ..only being a tube with no pump.

I caught you kind of late on this post, so hope it doesn't scroll off the board.
I started using progesterone cream about 6 mos ago and noticed a HUGE difference in my outlook. I didn't wake up in the morning wondering who I would murder next. Just kidding, but it was bad.
You really have to be careful what brand you use. I use BioEntopic 2% Micronized natural progesterone cream. In each 1/4 tsp I get 20mg of progesterone. That's very important. The first jar of cream I bought (can't remember the brand)only supplied about 5mgs.
Best wishes!

Hi Cherylann,
Thank you so much for your post. I'm glad that you have found some relief from the progesterone.
It appears that what my doc wants to do now is have a colleague of his, who is a pharmacist, compound a medication for me based on my own deficiencies in particular hormones.
In a way I am hopeful. On the other hand, I shudder at the cost of this kind of thing! Still and all, if it helps with my polycystic ovarain syndrom and mood and so forth it would surely be worth it. I know my husband would appreciate a more even-keeled partner!!!

Hullo,
You'll get a lot of good information concerning your questions from the book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause" by John R. Lee M.D. The book talks about avoiding oral progesterone, [i.e. Prometrium 100 and 200mg capsules] due to sharp spike of hormone, then sharp decline; the liver can only handle so much and excretes much of the oral progesterone so much of it is wasted; the liver can't keep up with the large dose found in oral progesterone, and so cannot get rid of certain metabolites of progesterone, such as pregnanediones, pregnanolones, and pregnanediols. The book also suggests different cremes and how much progesterone is actually in each product. They state the daily dose should be 15 to 20mg progesterone for transdermal creme. The book also addresses ovarian cysts, as well as many other hormonal topics.
Another quality creme is Femgest progesterone creme in a 2 oz or 57g container. It's sold as buy-one-get-one-free for $22.00 at our local health food store.
This is the end of the thread.
