Please do not post anything which could lead others to feel accused or put down. I am blocking you without a prior warning, because your history at this site suggests you are aware of the civility guidelines at this site and choose to disregard them. Additionally, you have posted multiple uncivil posts in a very short time. This block will be set for six weeks, although Dr Bob may choose to alter the length.

Your posts say you have found treatments which are improving your physical and psychological health, which is good to see. Despite your choice to disregard the civility guidelines here, it is always good to hear that treatment for mental health issues has helped improve quality of life.

If you have any questions regarding the posting policies on this site, please read the FAQ, located at http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil Follow ups to this action should be directed to the Administration board and should themselves be civil.

Dr Bob has ultimate authority over all administrative issues on this site, and may choose at any time to revise or reverse any action taken by a deputy.

I personally believe someone like this should be banned for life. Have you read all of his posts? I know, I know, Bob has the final say.

I also sort of wish there was no intervention just to see how everyone here deals with an inflammatory poster like Eric. And, also to see if Eric would have just left and never come back, which is what I believe he did. I am all for the blocking or banning of this particular poster though.

Racer, thanks for stepping in.

Since this was a duplicate name, I'm going to leave it blocked. I'm also deleting his posts, and those of other duplicate names, and responses to them.

Bob - I'd like to suggest that in the future - if you're going to be away from Babble for more than 2 days, before your absence begins it is really important that you pick a few members you trust to give them at least temporary ability (blocking power) so they can put a stop to any wrecking balls that pop up and go flying around here causing the kind of damage that's been done here during your recent extended absence.

Personally I find it upsetting when people speak about the weak dying off or being dispatched, but I don't agree that damage was done.

The situation was handled with forbearance and understanding, and that was something that helped people here in knowing that they could do that.

And now that I think of it, the removal of the posts has taken away the opportunity to see that forbearance, maturity, gentleness and things like that.

The posts by Hombre and Scott showed this. I guess they are gone now?

Yes - you are right and I agree that many folks demonstrated exquisite character in the face of some pretty awful stuff.

Just the same, unnecessary harm was done. Several had to at least temporarily take leave because there was no end in sight. I think that now that Bob popped in, blocked a couple of posters who monopolized the boards with their anger and deleted all their posts and the responses to them - those of us who are sturdy can easily move on and think nothing more of it. Deletion of the posts kind of rewrites a very real history. Makes it cease to exist in a way. But there are plenty of us that things like this leave a mark on. That's what I mean by damage. It might have not affected you at all - but I don't think that's true for everyone. And it was all so unnecessary... if Bob ensured that the boards were not left unprotected for extended periods of time.

No, that thing about the weak is a fundamental value of mine.

I was absolutely appalled, naturally enough.

It was exceedingly rude and just mean spirited
Mean spiritedness just scares me.

i don't like the deleting of posts.

the rewriting of history.

its a bit like burning books, i think. deleting posts, that is.

some of the discussions i've benefited from the most have been ones with blocked posters. guess that shows me something about my participation here lol.

basically (imo) things here are all f*ck*d up.

and...

there isn't an obvious solution.

'cept that i can't be bothered anymore.

really.

it's a little too... tidy. or something.

never mind that sometimes people are hurting and stuff... never mind the real person mess...

must keep up appearances.

the appearance of civility.

mmm hmm

depends on what your priorities are, i guess.

If we are looking for paradigms that relate to countries, the obvious one coming from the US is gun control (or the lack of it) and civility.

I wonder if the emphasis on civility in the US results from the impossibility of gun control.

I don't like deleted posts either. And it's especially jarring when so many are removed so long after they were posted. That said, I don't think the policy of deleting the posts of blocked posters is about keeping things tidy. I *think* it's about creating a disincentive to circumventing the blocks by reregistering. Of course deleting stuff days later doesn't do that very well and in the meantime other posters have gotten invested in the discussions. Perhaps some kind of statute of limitations would make sense.

Jane

ps You really didn't recognize that, er, unique posting style?

yeah, i get that. i posted some stuff that (in my mind anyway) was only in part addressed to the poster, though. those posts got deleted, too, i guess 'cause bob figured that they were addressed to him or he figured that my posts wouldn't make as much sense with other posts deleted.

what did i do wrong? why did my posts get deleted?

> ps You really didn't recognize that, er, unique posting style?

no. i don't think i know the poster under any of the posting names. its been a long while since i really read here.

Posting in the wrong place at the wrong time? Serioiusly, of course you did nothing wrong. You just got caught up by a rule that had nothing to do with you.

I remember this user, "LostBoyinNC." He used to post this sort of hateful extremism on a regular basis, here and on other support groups.

I wonder if he has ever tried cognitive or dialectical behaviour therapy, because it seems to me that he might benefit from such therapies, *if* he were actually compliant with the regime (i.e., if he were to make a sincere effort to participate, do the homework (a frequent characteristic of CBT), etc.). I see a lot of black/white & all/none thinking, "should"ing, mind-reading, fortune-telling, and especially, personalisation in his rants. He really needs to unlearn these and many other bad habits IMO. It saddens me to see that he does not seem to have matured since I last encountered him, but if anything has only gotten more

Do other group members see the kind of stuff I'm talking about too?
