Anyone have luck with Pristiq at 100mg but not 50?

Posted by TriedEveryMedication on July 9, 2022, at 11:15:01

Just wondering if anyone has had success with 100mg of pristiq vs. 50mg.

My doc wants me to try this higher dosage.

I see that epocrates and the Stahl prescribing guide both say there's no proof that > 50mg is any more effective.

A friend of mine didn't respond well until she reached a dosage of 100 mg/day. It has been working for the last 10 years.

Is Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) better than Effexor (venlafaxine)? Any evidence, including anecdotal?

I read the drug company (Pfizer) gave up on getting desvenlafaxine approved in Europe.

I have no clinical evidence to cite, but take into consideration that venlafaxine (Effexor) is extensively metabolized into desvenlafaxine (Pristiq) in the body. When venlafaxine and desvenlafaxine blood levels reach equalibrium, the blood level of desvenlafaxine is substantially higher than that of venlafaxine. So, both drugs yield desvenlafaxine in the blood stream.

Personally, I found venlafaxine to be more energizing than desvenlafaxine. Venlafaxine 300 mg/day has produced a mild improvement in deperession on a consistent basis. However, Pristique 100 mg/day did not produce any improvement at all.
