i'm on 80mg of prozac with nuvigil, it seems to work, but i know there's alot of people who take parnate that have treatment resistant depression, parnate is a exallant antidepressant, treats seriously depressed people and works well, but it does have a little more side effects than SSRI's, it's stimulating from what i've read some of it's effects are similar to dextroamphetamine (but not acts in the same it does)

Venlafaxine only covers the very worst of my symptoms.
Enough to be thankful for it but hm. It could be better.

Parnate has helped some. Therapy has helped more. Parnate is not like an amphetamine in my experience, except in the sense that it can cause terrible insomnia at first. What really works for me is abilify. If I fall into a bad place, abilify will pull me out within 48 hours. Unfortunately, it will also cause me to gain massive amounts of weight - and with no increase in appetite or food consumed. Completely screws with my metabolism.

how do you consider if your TRD...
i like to think that i have enough bouts of 'good', but then time comes again and again where my body seems to fall to crap and meds poop out or i need to switch things up.
however, i have dx of bipolar or aggitated/psychotic depression. so i'm not sure how that complicates things.
all i know is that i've been on many many...many medications. had to switch either due to med pooping out, not working at all or terrible side effects.
Lets just say that i've been coming here off and on with my med issues since 2004 (lurking since 2003 when i got my dx). and i still need new solutions.> Just wondering, how many people here with treatment resistent depression?

Nobody is OK all of the time or even most of the time. Even my cheery daughter gets blue for days sometimes.

Oh, yeah. That and TRA (aka "treatment resistant anxiety"). Full on. Whoop-dee-doo-daa.

> It depends on your definition of "OK".My definition of "okay" was/is a feeling of general satisfaction with my life. No extremes in mood. The usual sadness over a loss or disappointment and a general sense of well being about my life the rest of the time. I no longer have that.
Panic is a feeling I know well. I have trouble appreciating my "gratitude list". I feel no satisfaction in my current circumstances and usually see no way out.
So, for me, feeling "okay" means feeling general satisfaction with my life.

For me OK means that i rather live like this than to not live at all. I dont particularly enjoy it, but i still have hope.

I know someone already asked this question, but what are the criteria for TRD that you are using?
There is no one universally accepted definition for TRD. Some "official" definitions include the failure to respond to 3 antidepressants. Others require that there be a failure to respond to different classes of antidepressants.
Speaking for myself, I meet these criteria. Even if the number of failed antidepressant trials required to pronounce one as being treatment-resistant is raised to 20, I remain eligible. On Psycho-Babble, I am not so unusual in this regard.
Do you have TRD?

I really think that this ought to be written in the form of an "I" statement.

Yup.
