Has anyone else noticed that zyprexa loses its effectiveness rather quickly? When I start a 90 day supply, it knocks me out tired. By the end of the 90 days it almost seems to not work.
I just opened a new bottle about 2 weeks ago. With the last bottle, I was taking 17mg, with the new stuff I take 10mg. I have 20mg pills.
I also took some old stuff, year old and it didn't do much. I took 10mg.
The same thing happens every time. When I open a new bottle. And take the same dose as with the old bottle. Within a few days I can't keep my eyes open. Towards the end of the bottle I take a lot more almost or all of the 20mg pill and it does not seem to work as well as when it was fresh.
This time I have 3 factory sealed 30 pill bottles with a desicant pack in them. I will see if that make a difference.
Also the same thing happened with brand zyprexa and the teva I take now. For the longest time I've been taking old pills(couple months old) and it seemed that zyprexa was not as effective as it was in the past. When I would get a new bottle and took one to see if it was real z. It was a lot better than what I was taking.
For the longest while I thought someone was f-ing with my pills. Giving me watered down pills, because they wanted me on a lower dose or some thing.
Ever since I took 6 months of abilify and went back on zyprexa the pills were not as effective. But I guess that was because I've been taking several month old zyprexa and hording pills, so I would never run out. When I went back on z I've been taking higher doses of zyprexa for years. Up to 50mg a day. But usualy about 20mg.
Mind you that I think the abilify off set my brain too and gave me major anxiety that doesn't got away for months. Which is probably why I was on 30-50mg some days, right after I stoped.
In the beginning I was only taking 10mg zyprexa a day for many years and it was always very effective. But I did notice when I started 90 day supplys if was less effective rowards the end.
I've been taking zyprexa now for 18 years.
I've started to notice this over the last 8 or so.
Am I crazy or has anyone else noticed this?

> Am I crazy or has anyone else noticed this?Hi Zyprexa,
I have been taking Zyprexa for at least a couple years now. May I ask what your expectations for this med are? I take it for depression, anxiety, and as a sleep aid. I have terrible insomnia without it. It almost always works for sleep. As with many (if not most) psych meds I have taken, I have found that Zyprexa's benefits wax and wane with my changing moods, circumstances, etc.
I think its very unlikely that anyone is "f-ing" with your pills. Is it possible that you have a little bit of paranoia creeping in? I only say this because its the kind of thing I would have thought when I was unwell. Maybe mention your concerns to your pdoc? Please know I say this with the utmost respect. Its just.. ive been there.
I have always taken the Teva brand 5-10mg per day. I suppose its possible different brands vary in their potency. Would sticking to the same brand help as far as consistency is concerned? Can you buy it in monthly doses instead of ninety day?
A couple of months ago I weaned off of Zyprexa in the hopes of losing the weight I gained. It worked but I am now back on 10mg (Teva brand) as I crashed hard into a bad depression. I tried to stay at 5mg but alas. My depression is too strong and id rather be fat and well than go to the dark place...ugh!
Back to your point: yes I think it can lose some of its effectiveness just as a result of long term use. I hope this helps in some small way.

I also take the tiva. Have been for many years now. Always get tiva. I'm taking it for schizophrenia, anxiety, loss of appatite, lack of sleep. Mood disorder. Zyprexa is the only AP that works for me. I also have good results with perphenazine. But still need zyprexa. Very good med. Made me fat and happy too. I've managed to lose half the weight gain from it. I was 150lb at 5'10". Now 195lbs.
Does not seem to mater how much meds you take you still almost always have some symptoms. Even though they are greatly reduced. I had catatonia also.

Hi Zyprexa.
What are the symptoms of your untreated illness?
What are the symptoms that give you the most problems right now?

ummmm....well, sometimes, if you're on an antipsychotic long enough, you need a dosage increase. It has something to do with D2 receptors. I dunno. I read somewhere that anticonvulsants can help in that situation, too...lamictal, I think.

i've noticed even when taking 30mg, sometimes the body levelizes the effects after a long time, i mean the effect is there .... but it's noticable effects are kind of blended in, and doenst seem as strong, yet when you discontinue it there will be a big noticeable diffrence
i've been on zyprexa only 7 years, but i know it's main things is it's sedation and calmness, but still even after a long time the body levelizes, but it's nothing to worry about, because it is working it just not as interpersonal sensitivty feeling

I'm actually doing pretty good right now scott! Have been on the same meds for almost a year now. The only variable is the zyprexa. I take between 10 and 20mg a day. Depending on how fresh they are, or my syptoms.
Ever since adding the CBD I've been realy well. And taking less z, which is good because then I don't seem as much like a zombie and I'm not as tired. Before the cbd, I was taking 20mg z every day and not as well. The cbd has some pleasant, smothing out effect that makes me feel complete.
I rarely hear voices now, still some anxiety. Anxiety has been a big problem for me since the explosion, never seems to go away, but much better on z. Then there is the social anxiety, which the cbd is helping but still there.
One thing I noticed, is, I think I have dystemia. There is this depression that hangs over me all the time. I just can't show any emotion... I'm not happy and don't know how to have fun. Or even want to be around people a lot of the time. I don't go out unless I have to. Like for work or to the gym, and errends.

Dysthymia is pesky. Do you have any ideas?

I don't know what to do about the dystemia. I've been trying to talk out problems some. It seems to have come and gone, throughout my entire life. Ever since we moved when I was 8 years old. I didn't take to it too well. But never talked about it.
Other than that and take meds, I don't know what else to do?
