For the longest time I've been taking old pills(couple months old) and it seemed that zyprexa was not as effective as it was in the past. When I would get a new bottle and took one to see if it was real z. It was a lot better than what I was taking.

But I guess that was because I've been taking several month old zyprexa and hording pills, so I would never run out. When I went back on z I've been taking higher doses of zyprexa for years. Up to 50mg a day. But usualy about 20mg.

Hi Zyprexa,

I have been taking Zyprexa for at least a couple years now. May I ask what your expectations for this med are? I take it for depression, anxiety, and as a sleep aid. I have terrible insomnia without it. It almost always works for sleep. As with many (if not most) psych meds I have taken, I have found that Zyprexa's benefits wax and wane with my changing moods, circumstances, etc.

I think its very unlikely that anyone is "f-ing" with your pills. Is it possible that you have a little bit of paranoia creeping in? I only say this because its the kind of thing I would have thought when I was unwell. Maybe mention your concerns to your pdoc? Please know I say this with the utmost respect. Its just.. ive been there.

I have always taken the Teva brand 5-10mg per day. I suppose its possible different brands vary in their potency. Would sticking to the same brand help as far as consistency is concerned? Can you buy it in monthly doses instead of ninety day?

A couple of months ago I weaned off of Zyprexa in the hopes of losing the weight I gained. It worked but I am now back on 10mg (Teva brand) as I crashed hard into a bad depression. I tried to stay at 5mg but alas. My depression is too strong and id rather be fat and well than go to the dark place...ugh!

Back to your point: yes I think it can lose some of its effectiveness just as a result of long term use. I hope this helps in some small way.

Jade
