Does Remeron cause weight gain at higher dosages (45-90 mg/day)?

15mg at night with benzos for sleep, which didn't work caused none for me. Phillipa

Don't know from experience. I seem to recall reading that both the hunger and the sedation are less of an issue as the dosage goes up.

Just got off it after three weeks @ 45mg. Gained 13 lbs and wasn't even eating more as it didn't increase my appetite at that dosage. So I'm not sure what caused the weight gain (water retention perhaps). It was beginning to make me feel better but the weight gain is a big problem for me.

Thanks for your feedback. That's important information.

So, your appetite was higher at 30 mg/day and returned to about normal at 45 mg/day? I'm sorry things didn't work out for you.

I came across a paper the other day that described possible reasons why people gain weight on Remeron. I don't remember seeing anything referring to water-weight. However, there was some reference to basal metabolic rate (BMR) being reduced as well as reductions in leptin secretion.

Is Remeron the first drug to make you feel better?

Are there other drugs that you are thinking about trying?

I´ve run the gamut with meds. Remeron helped me 15 years ago when I was a lot slimmer. Even then, it traumatized me by gaining 30 lbs in a couple of months (@ 15mg)however, it pulled me out of a depressive episode. Prozac also helped me back in my thirties and am in the process of trying it again though I have no high expectations of it helping now since not even the high hitters have done much. I'm at the point of considering ECT. I've already tried rtms with no benefit other than a $12,000 bill. My quality of life is dismal. I had to quit my teaching job due to the severe fatigue I attribute to depression and since all my medical lab work up comes up normal. If ECT doesn't help me then IDK what else to do. I survive on amphetamines which give me a semblance of normalcy, I was recently prescribed Dexedrine spansules to see if they work better than Adderal, Vyvanse and Nuvigil (will be getting them next week). I'm so beat. I used to be so full of life, creative, sociable and industrious and now I feel like such a failure and on top of that, I have an additional 13 lbs to lose on top of the 50lbs (thanks to the Remeron trial)I've gained due to these meds (despite taking amphetamines). Sorry, I sound so negative but this disease has really taken its toll on me.
Hope you are doing well.

Me, too.

I am not as resilient as I once was.
