Keppra insomnia

Posted by Sheilac on September 16, 2015, at 6:07:43

I just started Keppra. My doc said I could start taking 500mg 2x a day or take all 1,000mg at night.

Last night I took 500mg and at first it just made me goofy and I slept great until 3:30 in the morning.

Will this go away? I'm afraid to take my daytime dose, but I do take adderall, so hopefully it won't make me goofy during the day.

Does anyone just take all of it at night? Does it help you sleep? Do you get insomnia?

Keppra can make you sleepy. I never experienced goofy feelings when I took it-i'm sure they'll go away.

I'm surprised your doctor doesn't prescribe Keppra ER. You can take split doses or you can take it all at night. It does help with sleep.

Remember, 3000 mg is really the best dose for bipolar disorder.

Right now 1,000 mg divided isn't enough, but my doc won't raise it until she sees my in October!

I can feel when it wears off and I feel a little hypo manic. So, I'd really prefer a higher dose.

I thought about taking it all at night, but I don't want to lose the effectiveness during the day. And I don't know how the extended release would work. I really like at least 750mg (1,000mg would be better) for sleep. I don't know how the ER would hit me.
