I have to say that my seasonal affective disorder got much better with Vitamin D3.
I went to the doctor to check some vitamins and Minerals in my blood and it turned out i was deficient.
I took 40.000 IU weekly.
Prolly gonna have another test soon to see if it can be reduced.
Vitamin D3 is pretty much the only Thing that WHO recommends for most to all People. Ist the only Thing People are frequently deficient in.

Obviously, if you're still deficient you'll need to continue with the high dose for a while. If not, you can reduce. Recommendations vary, but I'd suggest a daily maintenance dose of at least 1000 units but less than 5000 units, maybe go for 2000 units - this dose is generally suitable for people who have a history of deficiency which has now been treated. If you'd prefer to use the high dose capsules rather than daily dosing, 20 000 units every 2 weeks would probably be suitable.

It's great to hear that the vitamin D3 seems to be helping. As you probably know, I'm still taking and responding to vitamin D3 myself, with some apparent changes for the better in energy and concentration. And I agree with you that rates of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency seem to be high, and this especially seems to be true of individuals with certain mental illnesses. I hope that you'll continue to find vitamin D3 to be helpful.

Three years ago my level was 51 is this considered high enough? Just started taking D3 separate from my Calcium/Magnesium & D3? Seems the desired levels have been raised to an ultimate of around 70 is this true or not? Phillipa

My understanding is that a vitamin D level below 20 ng/mL is considered to be a deficiency and that levels between 20 and 30 ng/mL are considered to be insufficient. A level of 51, assuming that the measurement used is ng/mL, seems to me to well enough above the insufficient range, but I also understand that different experts have different ideas as to how much vitamin D in the bloodstream is considered to be optimal. I'll let Ed and others weigh in on what they think might be best in your situation.
How much vitamin D are you supplementing with on a daily basis?

Pretty low supplemental dose I think 2000 IU's and what in the CA/MG which I don't think is much. Thanks for answering. Phillipa

I'd take what I say here with a grain of salt, but from what I gather from having read Dr. Michael Holick's book "The Vitamin D Solution" , I think it's likely that taking 2,000 IU should probably bring your vitamin D level to around 70 ng/mL if it was at 51 ng/mL. Of course, other factors besides supplementation (such as season) might affect your vitamin D level, but if my understanding is correct, it seems likely that the amount of vitamin D that you're taking would bring your level to around 70 ng/mL.

Have you tried checking the spam folder in the e-mail program that you use to see if the e-mail inadvertently ended up there?

Sorry for the OT.
Its pretty significant that vitamin D3 does that. I have to say i am fine with taking 1 or 2 pills a week but not with sitting infront of that stupid lighttherapy thing.
Although i may do both in the future.
I am in this place that is EXTREMELY awesome. Its not a psychiatric hospital, its something for long term stabilization and it really did the trick for me.
I enjoy life to a degree i had not thought was possible with my illness of schizo-affective type depressive.

On the admin board i have seen that this seems to be a current bug of psychobabble.
The reset doesnt work. Is there another way to change the PW?

I just wanted to say that it's really good to hear that you're liking the place that you're living in. What sorts of activities, if any, do they keep you engaged in at the place where you're living? Sometimes being in the right environment can go a long way in improving a person's quality of life.

Ist the only Thing People are frequently deficient in.in my experience, nothing can replace the benefits of getting enough sunlight has on mood. im sure many of us have heard just being in the sun increases the bodys Vitamin D. but i have been taking a Vitamin D3/Magnesium/Calcium/Zinc supplement supplement, and its listed as having 100% of the daily recommended ammount of D3. while i dont think ive noticed much benefit since ive been taking it for about two months, i still make sure i get direct sunlight everyday for at least 20 minutes. afterwards i notice a lightening of my mood. it works best when i go for a walk on a sunny day.
i dont know if this is true or not, but i remember reading that having a window between you and sunlight doesnt provide the the Vitamin D benefits that direct sunlight provides. so driving in your car with sun shining through the windows on a sunny day doesnt count.
