I have been on Wellbutrin and Perphenazine (trilafon) for over 2 weeks, and if anything, I am more disorganized and forgetful than I was before I started them, although I'm no longer suicidally depressed. Will this go away? It's pretty distressing and I have to go back to work sooner or later. I just drove home from the mall and it seems like a dream, kind of unreal. I take 150mg Wellbutrin SR in the morning, and 2mg Perphenazine morning and evening.
Thank you.

I think wellbutrin increases neuroleptic levels (?), so that may be part of the issue, although your perphenazine dose is fairly low...
..do you feel sedated?
Do you have insurance? Symbyax might be cleaner.

If you are suicidally depressed how can you drive a car and go out to a mall. Isn't it dangerous to be driving both to you and others if you are feeling this way. Plus isn't one not supposed to drive till they see how a med effects them? Just curious and concerned. Phillipa

I don't feel sedated -- in fact kind of sped up at times. I have Kaiser -- but I'm on this combo because I've been on just about everything, and this is the one that has not seemed to cause weight gain/metabolic syndrome....

As I said, "I am no longer suicidally depressed" -- I meant that several weeks ago when I arrived at hospital, I felt suicidally depressed, but that I no longer do. Sorry for the confusion.
As for driving...I'm not sure I could handle staying home alone, although maybe I could get someone to pick me up instead of driving. Thank you for the reminder.

hey. maybe add something (?). I know, more pills, lol.
I was thinking...an SSRI. a benzo. Neurontin. Something along those lines...for calming down-ness.

What's the logic behind this combination? The perphanazine is most likely causing your brain fog. The two drugs are competing in your brain - Wellbutrin causing the release of dopamine, while the perphanazine works to block it. No wonder you're confused. Drop the perphanazine.

I'm not sure. All I know is that I've tried all the other kinds of antidepressants and Wellbutrin seems to be the only one that works.
As for the perphenazine, I'm not sure either, except that all the meds I've tried for bipolar hypomania, impulsivity, etc have had either extreme weight gain and metabolic syndrome, or akithesia....

It drives me nuts when people with bipolar disorder don't treat with a mood stabilizer. To put it simply, neurotransmission is greatly enhanced in those with mood disorders and mood stabilizers work to slow that transmission. Antipsychotics do not slow transmission between neurons in the brain - they only block dopamine. Perphanazine is a piss poor mood stabilizer and is probably not the most effective way to treat your hypomania. Have you tried all the mood stabilizers?
Trileptal
Tegretol
Depakote
Lithium
Lyrica
Gabapentin
Lamictal
Keppra
Topomax
ZonegranThe right mood stabilizer will treat your hypomania more effectively than any antipsychotic.

Yes to all except Lyrica. Benzos are difficult to get prescribed, and Klono was not great, and had horrible withdrawals. Ativan works well for me but is also difficult to persuade a doctor to prescribe for regular use.
Neurontin was found to be useless for bipolar, and its maker was fined.
Cheers,
S

>Thanks Eric. Did you mean "being treated with?" I mean, I'm not treating myself, I'm taking what a doctor prescribed.
As to your list, yes I have tried most of them, with the exception of Lyrica, Keppra which I know little about, but now I will research them.
Thanks again for your input,
S
