My brain hurts, and other things.

Posted by Partlycloudy on June 9, 2014, at 7:28:35

Hi there.
I am back from an abbreviated stay at a rehab facility where my relapse from sobriety was relatively easily dealt with. I also agreed (um, from pressure? Nah.) to revisit some of my psych med dependencies.

In 3 weeks and 2 days, Klonopin was reduced from 3mg a day to 1.5mg a day. Hello, panic attacks, welcome back.

My Ambien CR was reduced from 12.5mg nightly to generic zolpidem standard release 5mg. My brain hurts. I forgot where the light switch was on the wall, and how it works. Migraines are happening weekly.

I don't necessarily want to lose the progress I made. Sleep is improving slowly at this lowered dose, but the side effects are scary. Any thoughts on easing them?

My pdoc is on vacation, covering her own practice, and won't return my calls. She is getting fired. I see my family doctor this morning, but wanted this board's wisdom and input to ease my hurting brain.

Thanks for any suggestions.

i would asked to be crossed over to an equivalent amt of valium 20-25mg? and lower the klonopin whilst increasing the valium, do 1/2 valium with 1/2 klonopin for about 2 weeks to give the valium time to build up. (I crossed over from .5mg klonopin to 10 valium). Valium is so much easier to taper. Im only suggesting this if they want u to go off of klonopin completely. Im unsure. What is the plan? Do they just want to lower the meds ur on or have u give them up completely? Good luck with doc, and hope u feel better soon.

Wow, obviously that is too brutal a reduction. I will not use the word 'taper' in this instance. I second gadchik's ideas. Rehab people are flippin' nuts IMO. I used phenobarbital.

My family doctor put me back to 6.25mg of Ambien CR so I can do a slower taper with my new pdoc. Slightly increased the Klonopin to .5mg x 4 times a day with same expectations. Therapist said I was within my rights to take legal action, so I really just want to make my head not hurt and put this behind me.

Not drinking is great. The place I went to for help is dangerous. Really, 12 days of 4 hours of sauna, 140 degrees F, 20 minutes in and 10 out, is not beneficial for anyone. It was a total con and a pack of unethical lies.

Not a safe place. The outcome has left me with some considerable trauma of its own.

Thanks everyone, for your advice. I will take it up with my new doctor. You are so helpful!

Definitely dangerous all that heat? And cold turkey basically. Is the facility certified or something. Scarey. Phillipa

Their website had all the right stickers - including being accepting by my insurance plan - but the reality was far different. They did not accept my insurance. They wrote and filled new prescriptions for medications for 30 day supplies, but of which I only took 3 days' worth. I had to call my insurance company to get my adjusted dosage of Ambien script filled, because I didn't receive the rest of that supply when I left.

All sorts of wrong going on there. At the very least they were pouring bottles of tablets and capsules together, and who knew what we were being given. Where did the rest of the 30 day script that I was charged for go? Who is taking it, or who did they sell it to?

The sauna was its own kind of torture. We had a guy in that little room with us, which made me uncomfortable. Never mind I could have sat on him and squashed him flat.

Brain does not hurt any more. Yay! (nm)

My family doctor put me halfway back up on the meds I had been reduced on so I can do a more gradual taper. Headache gone and I don't feel loopy.
I also have an appointment made with a new pdoc since mine, who is on vacation with no one else covering her practice, never called me back. Done.

I am quite relieved. Was pretty certain I had damaged something permanently, but we are more resilient than we think (or are even led to believe).
Thanks!

I'd recommend Treximet as an abortive for the migraines and Keppra as a prophalactic.

Hi there.
I see that the migraine treatment is a tryptophan, to which I haven't responded well in the past. Ergotomines seem to suit me better. And isn't Keppra not recommended when used with benzos, which I am on?

My migraines are presently in remission.

You can take benzos with Keppra, no problem. I took Ativan with Keppra.

Oh. Thanks, then. I will ask my neurologist about it.
