You know, I am not one to bash psychiatric drugs. But, after four months of Vyvanse use, it was almost impossible to quit. I lost 25 lbs in almost 2 weeks, and was scared to even leave my bed. The reason why I wanted to stop it was because it was making me feel totally f'ed up when I took it every morning. Then, when I stopped it, the horror was magnified. I could barely even get out of bed in the morning, and I was absolutely *freezing*...even a hot shower wouldn't warm me up. I felt like absolute hell. I couldn't leave the house, afraid something horrible was going to happen. I had to really force myself to go and visit friends on Xmas eve, and I just sat there, shivering from the cold, in a huge house with a fireplace.
The very sudden and rapid weight-loss also made me thinking I had cancer or something. I've been gulping a large dose of a few antipsychotics to bring me back to Earth, stop the 'surges', and allow me to sleep peacefully.
I ask everyone to please either reconsider, or be very careful, going on stimulant medication. Plus, if you are any type of bipolar, this stuff is very dangerous, so that it shoves you into dysphoric mania.
I am sorry for sounding so alarmist, it is not in my nature to be like that.

I think stimulants are prescribed so frequently, often to children, that we forget how serious they are. They're Schedule II. They're right up there with Morphine and Dilaudid and some of the few barbiturates still produced in the US. High potential for abuse and addiction, limited therapeutic value. No refills.
Amphetamine psychosis is much more common than many people may suspect. Kids get it, adults get it, sometimes off of low-moderate therapeutic doses. Often, someone with amphetamine psychosis is hospitalized and stigmatized with further lables. Personality disorder, drug dependence, bipolar, psychotic disorder, etc. I guess that's a lot easier than saying: The drug is the problem.
Anyway, I'm glad you have enough insight to see that your drug is your problem (in this case) and do something about it before you ended up in a hospital, unemployed, psychotic, etc.
Good luck to you, and thank for the post.

The side effects are absolute Hell, especially after even a few months. I have *never* felt so horribly depressed after not only using them, but through withdrawl! Made me just wanna crawl up on the bare floor in the fetal position.

When I was young and thought I was fat after a childbirth. And diet pills were the rage. First I had lost weight during the pregnancy. But wanted to be skinny. So had the ob-gyn prescribe me a diet pill assuming they were amphetamines. No restrictions at the time. He gave me 30 days of them. Took one every other day. I had no anxiety, no psych problems then. Was only 22. But I got a lot done. Washed all the windows outside the house daily. Toward the end I started to have a problem falling asleep a first for me then. Soon as off them. Went back to normal. So I imagine they are horrible for those with bipolar or a similar illness. My choice in meds is limited by cost of meds and VyVanse was too expensive for me to take so maybe that was a good thing. It is all experimentation anyway so it's good to proceed with caution with most of the meds prescribed. It's been a med merry go round for close to 30 years for me so my reaction to most meds is very slow and usually at the half dose recommended, as I Usually respond to a much lower dose that is recommended. I think I learned this the hard way as I have had some horrific reactions too. Sorry for your experiences.

its amphetamine withdrawl....you take Vyvanse, it makes you feel wierd, then after it is discontinued it causes more health problems....believe me, i have been through all of this.....2006, then 2008, then 2012 they where all amphetamine trials, but my case was abuse of them. I took it repeatdly, and it would cause me to sweat, cold feet, dry mouth, awful....then after i was taken off them, the hell that i went through, both mentally and psychical.....the withdrawl....my mother would not let me take stimulants till this day, exept for the Nuvigil im on, i started using Methamphetamine which was 3 times more potent than taking dexedrine, the rush, when it wore off....i started shaking mildly, cold, paranoid, had to take Zyprexa at 30mg's...thats what, so i have been through this before.....
you may want to start taking Magesium, with calming herbal supplements, with the antipsychotics.....that or benzos....benzos will take care of the shaking, it will relieve the anxiety......

They seem to prescribe this stuff like candy these days. I've got a really awesome doctor, so I'm not going to say anything to him. But, buyer beware...for sure! Sleep seems to be the thing they really mess up.

Unfortunately, our public health program pays for this drug. It is really like a crap shot, but I guess that is part of the price. Thanks...

> rRJ, I remember reading of your struggles with this stuff. Your posts have always been very helpful. Thanks so much for your tips and such, you hit it right on the head. How about the crazy dreams and nightmares? I have limited access to benzos over the holidays, and would like to find something soothing to help at bedtime. Melatonin makes my crazy dreams even worse. I will try the magnesium. Thanks...

there's 2 things, 1) Valerian Root 2)Kava Kava
they both have a mild similarity to Valium, its not controlled, they will help with anixety, they work on GABA just like benzodiapines do, expect not as potent....but when taken at moderate doses they will resemble a benzo effect.....
check it out, there usally at health food stores

provigil is a CIV, it's number 4 on the controlled substances list.....its not really a attrative for a stimulant high, its like caffeine, but it lacks the euphoria from dopamine from various amphetamines and methypendiate.....it works more with the adrenaline receptors....but yes it can be abused, but if too much is taken of provigil....its not going to be that pleasant, caffeine like high, not an amphetamine high

Weird. I took Vyvanse for 7 months and it was likenothing. Completely nothing. I even went off cold turkey with few side effects. Goes to show how different we all are with these meds.
