I have. After an initial course of daily therapy for three weeks 10 years ago, I have had it several times a year as maintenance therapy. For me, it has been tremendously helpful, and has helped keep me in remission, or pretty close to it.

It's was approved by the FDA 4 years ago. I was part of one of the original studies 10 years ago, and, because it helped so much, continued having it given by the same research group at Duke.

Thanks, Twinleaf. Do you mind me asking what your Dx is? Was it helpful with stability in addition to mood? I'm currently doing Ketamine shots but I'm afraid they've only boosted my mood so much (a good thing, as I was in a bad rut), but I'm not close to remission and I fluctuate a lot. My pdoc offers TMS and he thinks it's a logical next step.

I had a PTSD-related type of depression due mainly to separation from my mother because of her being hospitalized for post-partum depression for six months after I was born. (Interestingly, I did not have any depression when my own son was born.) Therapy has been the other important part, with medication playing much less of a role.

Thanks, T.That makes total sense; my pdoc explained it was initially FDA approved for PTSD. I think in many ways, we depressives are very sensitive people for which life in general can be a series of PTSD events.

TMS lowers cortisol, raises dopamine, and encourages the growth of healthy new cells in the hippocampus. Unfortunately, like ECT, the effects are temporary, but, in contrast to ECT, it is extremely safe. Especially if you have a trauma- related depression, I think it would be well worth a try.
