Concerta/Methylphenidate

How would you rate Concerta as an augmenting agent for depression, or rather some of the symptoms of depression, apathy and loss of drive? What are the chances of success? And yes, I've gone through most classes of psychiatric medication.

It can hold much promise but be wary of possibility of tolerence build up. Also suppossedly dopamine downregulation with long term use. I'm very senitive to meds so my very short trial a month ago w/ concerta had mixed results. I do know it allowed me to be more productive. I just wish it came in a lower dose.

I know it can be helpful as ritalin has been a monumental help for me despite it's large tolerance build up. Even after 5+ years it still does help to some degree. Especially upon giving it a break and trying it up again.

Thus the similar may be true for concerta but due to it's time release may hold up against tolerance better. I will try in the future again. With my current Selegiline 5mg concerta might not be the wisest choice due to inability to reduce minimum dose.

Tolerance is an issue. I was thinking of drug holidays, like on or two days off on weekends, do you have a strategy like that? I read you give it a break, how long? What dosage of Concerta works for you?

It sucks, and when I told my doc about stim holidays he said why would you want to do that?

Maybe he could be wrong but I've never developed
tolerance to any stim.

I develop a tolerance to certain effects but not others.

For mood, I only use methylphenidate as a booster - usually when I feel so hopeless that I think nothing can help.

The benefit of ritalin for me is that it (as long as I'm not taking it daily) it will boost my mood very reliably. I find it helps the most when my mind is racing. I will go into a completely darkened room and take maybe 2.5-5mg.

(basically sensory deprivation + ritalin).

I don't crash per se on ritalin. Usually I feel better the next day. I do notice that with repeated use, I can become a bit more sensitive to lights and sounds.

I sometimes just go a bit lower in my dose once in a while and raise back up. I have done holidays for a week or longer a few times over the year or so and the positive effect on start up can be quite refreshing but it never lasts for me.

concerta i could only handle the lowest dose. i think it's 18mg.

if ritalin worked long term it'd be a miracle for me but unfortunately i may have to give it up. i don't know. but i been spiraling downwards so much this past week that it's frightening and i have no clue what to do.

It's been two hours since I took 18mg of Concerta. Don't feel much to be honest, my pulse is 57 and normal blood pressure. No increase in drive, motivation, but I don't know what to expect either.
Any ideas?
