Just got my labs for thyroid and what does the RN think I'm an idiot? Trying to say the internet is all wrong about normal TSH, Free T3 Free T4. That the reagent that is used in some labs means a TSH can be normal at 12 at some docs? I let her think I thought is was interesting. But trusted websites are fine. As my husband said to her well your practice is on the net does this mean you are no good. I will manage my own thyroid from now on. Phillipa

Are you telling me that you are to judge and condemn the rest of the medical profession based upon your encountering a single inept nurse such that you would decide to be your own doctor from now on?
Okay.

Tell them that you want to see the doctor not an RN (you want the organ grinder, not the monkey)
Sicsuss your concerns with the doc, they will have a deeper understanding of the subject.

Did you discuss specific symptoms and, if so, was she able to provide an alternate explanation as to possible cause? Is a second opinion a viable option for you? I understand the frustration of dealing with healthcare professionals who seem dismissive, especially regarding a condition that is causing a lot of stress and discomfort. My last pnurse had never heard of melancholic depression until I asked her about it. Likewise, my current psychiatrist has heard of it, but likens it to dysthymia (maybe because I mentioned past occurences of dysthymia). Sorry for the long reply, but I realize how easy it is to let one's emotions make decisions for us in such instances. Not saying you're doing that, just pointing out that it's always a good idea to guard against it, unless you're trying to decide what to watch on television, the color of a new vehicle you're buying, or something equally benign. I hope you are able to find relief soon.

I do know this problem is simply the organ grinder will not take phone calls it's the RN that does this for him so he can do appointments. He also teaches at a University Chapel Hill I think. Anger takes time to settle down. I also chat with family and others via facebook and some are on armour, one girl was a drug rep, she tested high thyroid doc put her on synthroid and she felt horrible so said heck with doc and discontinued it and all her energy came back. Now she's seeing an integrative doc cash only but her husband is an exec in ADD division of a drug manufactuer and she has a photography business. Also into running marathons. Phillipa

Make an appointment and go in and see the doctor Phillipa, rather than talking to the nurse on the phone.
Whatever the blood tests say, if you dont feel right, you dont feel right

She is an idiot. They put people with a 6 tsh on synthroid. The lab range max is 4.5 and for an endocrinologist the max is 3.5. Look at the rare side effects for Effexor, hypothyroid is one of them
