Did you discuss specific symptoms and, if so, was she able to provide an alternate explanation as to possible cause? Is a second opinion a viable option for you? I understand the frustration of dealing with healthcare professionals who seem dismissive, especially regarding a condition that is causing a lot of stress and discomfort. My last pnurse had never heard of melancholic depression until I asked her about it. Likewise, my current psychiatrist has heard of it, but likens it to dysthymia (maybe because I mentioned past occurences of dysthymia). Sorry for the long reply, but I realize how easy it is to let one's emotions make decisions for us in such instances. Not saying you're doing that, just pointing out that it's always a good idea to guard against it, unless you're trying to decide what to watch on television, the color of a new vehicle you're buying, or something equally benign. I hope you are able to find relief soon.
