I just changed from 100mg -150 mg sertraline to 20mg of Lexapro i am 64 ,so at 65 i will have to drop to 10mg by English shrinks for safey. New info on the box states what i have just said. Now i dont no if this is a good thing because if your sexually active at 64 like me, LEXAPRO at 20 mg has the worst orgasm problems of any ssri. GRAZYMEDS dont rate 20mg any better than 10mg for the theraputic dose so is the extra 10mg just side effects . What im asking will i be any worse if i drop to 10mg an most of all will my orgasms get better.

Don't know about orgasms but have stopped the lexapro as didn't notice a thing good or bad so why take it? Phillipa

I say why wait until you are 65 try and lower it now! If I remember correctly the clinical trials that they used for FDA approval showed no additional benefit of the 20mg dose over the 10mg dose.
Yet they still decided to make a 20mg pill...

Thanks herpills, the reason is i have only been on lexapro for a few weeks from 150mg sertraline,i though 10mg maybe testing my luck at this early stage But the orgasm problem was no where near has bad with 150mg sertraline , but my head is clear on lexapro an more energy.Phillipa 2 and a half mg of lexapro is going to do S.F.A until you bin the luvox an get on at least 10mg you will gain nothing.

bennybenzo, if you find that you need a bit more "kick" with 10mg of Lexapro, you could combine it with Edronax 4mg twice a day

jono , has i say i started a few weeks back on 20mg lexapro straight swap over from 150 mg sertraline . I chose 20mg to be in line with the 150mg sertaline switch, i didnt think 10 would hold me stable. But after reading a lot of info the 20mg is no better than 10mg im thinking of dropping to 10mg after being on 20mg for 3 weeks, do you think the orgasm prob is standard lexapro at any dose or dropping to 10mg would help.

Hi Benny, SSRI's have a relatively flat dose/response curve in depression, ie, doubling the dose doesnt greatly amplify the response (it does in OCD and panic disorder though) so dropping back to 10mg would likely reduce the side effects while retaining its effiacy as an antidepressant.
I found that combining my SSRI with either edronax or nortriptyline greatly enhanced the effect, by hitting both noradrenalin and seretonin at the same time.
And yes, cutting back the dose should reduce the sexual side effects.
