I'm tired of being tired and depressed.
If this is true, then why not try this?My doctor said no. Anyone have any idea what
the big deal is? Has anyone tried this?

I don't know what the big deal is. What were your doctor's reasons for rejecting this treatment as an alternative?I have tried an anticholinergic (biperiden) in the past as a treatment for depression. It didn't help. However, there is some rationale behind doing this. The cholinergic (muscarinic) theory of depression has been around since the 1960s. I am not aware that anyone has proven this theory to be wrong. The National Institutes of Health supports the investigation of scopolamine and is currently using it themselves. Perhaps your doctor is already aware of these studies and is not impressed.
To inquire about the NIH scopolamine program, you can call them directly or email them.

If you want to do a diy trial, you can buy scopolamine/hyocine over the counter in Australia

The scopolamine patch is available OTC in canada. I have tried it. It does seem to have mood elevating effects.

My doc is also hesitant to try anything outside the norm. He did allow me to try a parkinson drug that he had never prescribed, but that was a push.
I get excited over some of these other drugs (like ketamine), and then also read the negatives. The long term effects make me a little worried, as well as the fact that drugs are most likely than not to worsen my depression.

Actually- I'm not even sure why he didn't want to prescribe it. Maybe because it's not a psychiatric medication?
Thanks for the very helpful information. Iv'e never thought about participting in a study. Living near a medical school, that sounds like a good option.
Thanks again. =)

I see that. After seeing your reply, I checked U.S. pharmacies. Looks like you can't buy it here OTC in any form.
Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for your feedback. Did you take the dosage as indicated for motion sickness?
At that price, I guess it's worth a try. But after checking into this more, I have also heard about many adverse effects.
Still thinking about it at this point.

I hear you...Ketamine is one I would't feel comfortable trying, after reading about psychotic like effects.
Never heard of long term effects from scopolamine, and it seems like only 3 days to endure.
Well, get better soon!

It should be noted that the investigations into the use of scopolamine in depression use intravenous infusions. It is not administered orally. I don't know if oral scopolamine is effective.http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00369915
