I don't know what the big deal is. What were your doctor's reasons for rejecting this treatment as an alternative?I have tried an anticholinergic (biperiden) in the past as a treatment for depression. It didn't help. However, there is some rationale behind doing this. The cholinergic (muscarinic) theory of depression has been around since the 1960s. I am not aware that anyone has proven this theory to be wrong. The National Institutes of Health supports the investigation of scopolamine and is currently using it themselves. Perhaps your doctor is already aware of these studies and is not impressed.
To inquire about the NIH scopolamine program, you can call them directly or email them.
