Need higher dose?

Posted by sheilac on August 4, 2012, at 12:11:42

Only taking 450mg Lithium. 5 - 10mg Adderall XR.

I have found that the Lithium has taken away my sex drive. Probably a side effect of being on a mood stabilizer?

Also - I have found the Adderall positive, but it has made me OCD. Really OCD.

I know I need to up the Lithium to 600mg a day (which is what my doc wants).

I still have diareaha - guessing its from the Lithium, could it be from the Adderall? or Adderall plus lithium causing the explosive bathroom issues? Would going up to 600mg make the bathroom issues worse? Does that ever get better?

I should be able to tolerate the low dose of Adderall. I guess a higher dose of Lithium would make the OCD symptoms of Adderall go away?

Love the Adderall, but sometimes have a hard time sleeping too.

Lithium does cause diarrhea. That is all I know. Whether it goes away or not don't know. What does your doc say? Remember we are all different. Might want to google archieves and see if it's been discussed before. Phillipa

you might want to look into luvox or lexepro with Anafranil because those combinations are really effective for OCD. I googled this...there alot of SSRIs they use for OCD but really I think luvox and lexep. are good. Seriously I don't lithium ... lithium balances the nuerotransmitters, it makes equilibrium but it doest fix low nerotranmitter level, usally I think its high levels serotonin and dopamine associated with mania that balances the flow.

I think that would help.....the Anafranil.

I didn't have the severe OCD symptoms until I started the low dose of Adderall. Could Adderall be making my low grade, really manageable OCD worse?

I think it could.

Thirsty and diareaha

This is my 2nd day on 600mg of Lithium and I have been so thirsty. I feel like I could stick my head under the faucet and gulp and gulp water till I drown!

Plus the loose stool or just plain old explosive bathroom experiences suck.

I like the antidepressant side effect of Adderall, but it can make me irritable after a while.

I hate all these meds. I hate the side effects.

I have trouble falling asleep at night and then am so tired and irritable in the morning.

My irritability and low grade depression is what brought me down this road of meds.

I guess I have to put up with some awful side effects in order to be nice. Hate it.

Shiela,

the adderall....its amphetamine sulphate or mix but it increase dopamine and norepinehrine and stimuates them to move through the nerve sympase. Dopamine will make some people obessed with things because of the hyperfocus effect it can create....I rerember adderall, and dexedrine, but mainly adderall i would be cleaning and become obessed with cleaning a place that was already clean, I just thought in my mind I would make it squeky clean. Especially if your in college adderall can make you obessed with math problems, you can sit for hours and do equations like eighstien did, but that's only in some cases, usally the dose would have be moderate to high to keep sustained attention and focus.

you could switch to dexedrine because it only is damphetamine...adderall has a sting to it because of the levoamphetamine that is more psychical stimulation that can create anxiety, it works more on norepinehrine rather than dopamine.

You could start a SSRI that's used for OCD to counter the adderall symptoms because if you stop the adderall it would be a difficult to adapt. You could check out 5-HTP if your not taking an SSRI and usally if you take about 300-400mg of it will let the ocd to leave...but still its kinda of a crude method to use.

What does your doctor say about this? I mean will he even try to help you with some medications to reduce OCD. I know that adderall can cause OCD because of the focus it provides, doing the same thing over again...repetive tasks. It's just how amphetamine works...if I wanted my car squeak clean I would pop 2 adderalls before cleaning.

you could just tell your doctor if he will work and work around the adderall, but my suggestion is switch to dexedrine, its smoother and less agitating.

I doubt its the lithium-try looking at life stressors instead.

>I have found the Adderall positive, but it has >made me OCD. Really OCD.

Dextroamphetamine is known to treat OCD. And 5 mg of adderall is a low dose tto be getting that kind of effect. Stop tthe adderall if you think its the culprit and see if your OCD goes away.

I doubt the aderall is causing the diarrhea. Lithium is your main culprit...Raising it may or may not cause the diarrrhea to get worse.

>I guess a higher dose of Lithium would make the
>OCD symptoms of Adderall go away?

NO. Lithium does not treat OCD. Treatment of OCD starts with an SSRI, SNRI, TCA, Mirtazapine, etc.
