I have an issue with tuning out in meetings, lectures, and social situations.
Although I have a diagnosis of GAD, the tuning out does not seem to be anxiety related. It is more like we all have a running tape of what is going on and I am a little low on tape.
I have tried to *will* myself not to tune out, but it still happens!
For a while I thought that tuning out was due to anxiety, but my anxiety has been well treated and it still happens.
I am curious about trying an anxiety-friendly ADD drug to see if it would help with the 'tuning out' aspect. Something like -- Strattera.
Has it helped any of you with focus? Do you have any anxiety?

In reply to Strattera to prevent tuning out? ok for anxiety?, posted by CaffeinePoet on May 20, 2012, at 21:55:41
my shrink gave me adderall instead of straterra bc she said straterra would cause more anxiety. Maybe she was just trying to secretly help my depression ? But seriously: stimulants might be better than reuptake inhibitors.

Good to know, thanks. I have not yet been diagnosed or tested for ADD/ADHD so my HMO will probably not be ok with stimulants, more ok with something else for now. But yes -- a good friend with anxiety takes Adderall and it really helps her.
