I've been unemployed since 1/11 and have filed for Disability which I think may not be good for me even get it.
I haven't even thought about work since I was laid off due to many reasons.
I used to assistant manage then manage drug stores for a large chain. Trust me, it's a stressful job.I have been thinking about a pharm tech job. In a slow sore I might make $9 an hour. a fast store maybe $13 although I've read that Cvs is lucky to pay $10 with infrequent raises no matter your experience.
Some pharmacies have 5 people tripping over each other and have endless lines. Not sure I could handle that. Stress - trainwreck.
Hospitals pay the most but you mix chemo and have lunatic nurses yelling I'm first. More stress.
Even though this would be a step down for me it is less stress. Plus I may just work to 62, I'm almost 59.
About 20 years ago, a Walgreens pharmacist misfilled a prescription for a simple prob a mid-20's girl was having. The girl took the pills and is now blind. I would worry about that.
Retail is where I feel at home, I've dome it for most of 30 years. The only customer I can't handle is one with a gun pointed at me.
Any input would ge greatly appreciated as this is the only thing that has given me a spark. Also, maybe something similar, not high pay but a job.
Thanks in advance,

Seriously have you considered selling on ebay we have been doing it for over 6 years now. Up to now only selling high dollar designer handbags and other only new with tag items. It's providing a living for us. Since you work from home you set your own hours and shop both online and in stores during afternoons. Packing for shipping and postoffice most days. But stress level is minimum for working these day. Write and will provide our link to our store there also. If Ed UK were here he could answer the pharmacy question. Oh and going from RN to this has been a huge disappointment as loved it at one time. But now retirement which isn't what it's maked up to be. Phillipa

Yep, most of my sales was retail. High end furniture and many years ago, stereo. Managed 5 stores after a while. 80 hour weeks and the most pressure I've ever had in my life, I was 27.
If it weren't for pre-diagnosis street drugs I probably would have popped. Most of my life if I didn't sell, I didn't eat. I'm big on security and right now, I have none.
Yeah, stress is what led to my breakdown and the next day started my first certified 30 day mania.
I hope you can hang in there, jobs are scarce.

phil-
what about one of the live music spots in austin? i have no idea in what capacity.
also, with your knowledge there may be some sort of austin historical society that could benefit from your expertise.
finally, check-out craigslist for austin. there always seems to be some type of odd job that may be low stress.
i commend you on your desire to work. as i told you before i have not worked in 2 years. this after being a teacher for 27 years...
freud said you need 3 things for a healthy mind; work, play and love. i know he is out of fashion these days, but that simple approach is pretty spot-on in my book.

Thanks john, I'm just kicking ideas around right now. I'm a musician..drummer, and music would be great. You know how much musicians here make on an average club gig? zero Way too many bands.
I used to like physical stuff but age and weight gain from AAP's have put an end to that.
But yeah, Craigs List, I'll start checking it. One day at a time.
What did you teach??

I haven't taken it in a long time and never without alcohol and pot(my original combo..very effective)
and I told my doc if I ever asked for it don't prescribe it. He said why. I said I love that sh*t.Valium. But I don't know how it feels straight and I'm getting benzo-phobic lately. :)

I could teach kids to play drums but a really good teacher should read(music)and know all of the drum rudiments. I'm self-taught and never bothered with that stuff. I don't have the room to teach so that's out. If I did have the room and had a kid or grown-up not concerned with reading but taking their playing up a notch, I could do that.
