any valdoxan veterans?

Posted by rentalmuse on May 2, 2012, at 1:11:59

i have been taking valdoxan 12.5- 25 mg for ten days now, at night. it started working for the very fist night making me feel much calmer and at times id feel blissed out too. it was also activitating at the same time as it made me drowsy, strange as it may see- kind of hypomanic. its ad effect now seems to be fading out

i never really had a sleep problem, except for initially switching off and with valdoxan i am ready for switching off and sleeping anytime-this is one good thing that's lasted.

however now im feeling more emotional and easily upset and frustrated/annoyed.

i was wondering if the ad effect will again pick up and what kind of graph to expect?

Well it lasted longer than that for me.

It was good for quite a while and I pushed the dose up too quickly perhaps. This may have provoked that afternoon anxiety, quite unlike normal anxiety, a sort of physical thing.

There was, as you say, a nice calming feeling.
Unfortunately this was the first thing to go.

Similar thing happened to me, but probably worse--after the first few days when that (presumed) 5HT-2c antagonism was so pleasant, and activating yet calming, the drug exacerbated many aspects of my depression--lowered my mood, and made me more pessimistic and negatively emotionally reactive. Easily upset, as you say. It only got worse as the days went on. I took it for well over a month, but it only got worse. You may wish to consider discontinuing.

I attribute the negative effect to its melatonin receptor agonism; I got roughly the same thing from the sleep medication rozerem (a melatonin receptor agonist) and from melatonin itself. Melatonin intake can be associated with depression, though some research was supposed to indicate Melatonin 3 agonism (If I remember correctly, the type in valdoxan) was supposed to be immune from that effect. Apparently not--though, really, that's just a guess.

thx for the responses..i couldnt locate this thread, hence the delay.

i discontinued valdoxan after 2 weeks.

yes, the ad effect seemed to wear off and most alarmingly, it made my mind totally fuzzy.

my cognitive uptake was like a zombie and i felt totally thick.

now started reboxetine/edronax

I had the same withdrawal issues coming each time I came off a melatonergic agent, be it Valdoxan, Rozerem and OTC melatonin in the past. The withdrawal effects included feeling tired during the day and mental slowness (especially in terms of verbal fluency). I'm curious how long the withdrawal effects lasted/are lasting for you? Are you still experiencing some cognitive dysfunction?

On another note, have you tried a NRI before? Are you augmenting with Reboxetine or are you planning on doing this monotherapeutically? I'm extremely skeptical of noradrenergic action being touted as having reliable efficacy. My experience has been very negative with Reboxetine, Savella, and Straterra. My own advice is to proceed with caution.
