before making you able to feel more pleasure? like, say you're taking prozac and after about 2 weeks you begin to feel a bit more numb emotionally than usual. should this numbing of your emotions be expected to persist as you continue the prozac for a full 6 weeks, or does this effect go eventually go away?

For me, it continues. They--"they" being the people who prescribe these drugs in the first place--that adding wellbutrin can help. Never done that myself.

Yes, I have had that happen on SSRIs. It is a common side effect. Many people feel that their emotions are in there somewhere, but separated from them by a wall. Lowering the dosage might help.

I don't think my doses are high enough for this to happen. I could stand some numbing all said. Phillipa

With most of the antidepressants I took, I never had an issue with feeling numb. That is, until I took remeron. First I started losing feelings for people to straight up hating them. Good thing I never told these people this, because that stopped when I stopped the med.

You have real feeling,s but blunted, that is the hole object. To take you from a depressive high anxierty state, to a blunted liveable existance. Some people carnt live this way , an other are glad of the rest from high alert illness. Take as low as you can get away with, and if your health is %70 you are one of the lucky one,s, an nobody not even the normal,s reach %100

when i first started taking prozac in 2005 it gave me a since of clarity and a warm feeling. You probaly have no idea what im talking about dealing with this. It lasted for a couple years and then it faded and then it made me feel emotionaless. Wellbutrin of Effexor is better to take if other SSRI's cause this.

I found Effexor to be less numbing than the SSRIs I've tried.

Zoloft is the only SSRI I took, and it was very numbing for me. At the time, it was a relief because it gave me reprieve from the catastrophic pain depression brought on.. but ultimately I came to the conclusion that I would have to work through the pain, because feeling 'nothing' was worse than pain. So, I stopped the zoloft but kept the wellbutrin, and supplemented with very low-dose lorazepam when things were most intense. And lots, and lots of therapy. It's been nine years since I fell in the black hole, and three years ago it started getting better (very gradually). During the last year I have reached a comfortable place of stability and emotional strength and resilience - and feel I can now 'handle' life. I'm not who I was before.. so part of my work now is embracing my 'new normal.' I still take the Wellbutrin, and still have lorazepam on hand but rarely take it. If I fail to take Wellbutrin for one day, I don't notice. But if I miss it for two days in a row, I start slipping down that hole.
