For 4 years now I have suffered a frontal headache that sends pain from the middle of my forehead through my eyes and down into my teeth. Just recently I visited a neurologist who has diagnosed me with an atypical trigimenal neuralgia. To treat it he has prescribed Carbamazapine.
How will this effect my mood?

Its used as a mood stabilizer in bipolar. I think its better for mania, agitation, rage, and aggression than the depressive end of things. Blood work is necessary. I think it has a number of drug-drug interactions you might want to check out.
Did he mention trileptal? Its like tegretol, only somewhat cleaner. No blood work. I don't know anything about the drug-drug interactions.

Carbamazapine has been used for a long time now to treat trigimenal neuralgia, which is the target symptom.
Trileptal did nothing for my headaches and made my OCD worse.

CTs, MRIs. The fact that the pain does not respond to conventional means. Its been a constant pain for 4 years now. Describing my symptoms to my new neorologist has him convinced it is neuralgia.

Studies show Trileptal is not as good at treating neuralgia as Carbamazapine. The two medications are structurally different and don't share all the same mechanism of action.
