Hi,
I take 50mg of clomipramine each morning to take care of IBS, depression, and anxiety. It's working fine but I keep having a very light sleep. I feel tired during the day and I can't focus or concentrate on any activity that involve the mind like reading or trying to learn something.
My psychiatrist prescribed Trimipramine in liquid form to help me with my sleeps. It works more or less. Sometimes I have a very deep sleep with a lot of REM but some other night I keep on waking up and have difficulties to fall asleep again.
I take between 15 and 25mg of Trimipramine when I go to bed but I find it very random.. I don't know which dosage should I take.
My depression and anxiety is under control but this sleep problem is annoying. I don't spend a night without waking up 2 or 3 times during the night.
Do you have any experience with Trimipramine or Clomipramine ? Or both ?
Thank you

Waking up like that is a pain in the *ss. Honestly I don't think Trimipramine is going to provide you with a reprieve. Maybe Doxepin, but here's my list of 'sleep aids':
Seroquel - powerful histamine action
Gabitril - Improves stage 4 sleep
Cyproheptadine - Powerful anti-histamine that antagonizes some 5ht receptors. Very sedating. Also improves sleep.
Clonidine - getting more popular as a treatment for insomnia.
Lyrica + Gabbapentin - Also improve sleep.
Thorazine - Yeah.Clomipramine by itself can cause sedation after dosing. Perhaps you'd do better on a slightly higher dose, say 100 mg. Remember, max dosage for depression or anxiety is usually 150 mg.

I have experience with Clomipramine. I take 100 mg along with 40 mg Viibryd to treat OCD and bipolar depression. When I was on the Chlomipramine alone, I was taking 200 mg. It brought me out of a long depression and really helped my OCD. The only problems I had with it were EPS and anorgasmia.

I think I will ask for Doxepin. The problem with Clomipramine is that it increases stage 1 and decreases the REM latency and REM sleep which leads to many unwanted awakenings. The purpose of Trimipramine is to increase REM, but like I said it is very random. Maybe I should lower the dose of Clomipramine. When I didn't take any medications I had a great sleep quality. I miss that..

Trimipramine is a potend sedative, usual dose 25-50mg an hour before bedtime.
It is one of the few sedatives that doent supress REM sleep.

I also took 225mg of Clomipramine a year ago. It helped a lot for my depression (mood!) but I had to much tremor on it and always a dry mouth. I think it`s a very good AD i you can bear the side effects.

I tried to lower the dose of clomipramine to 25mg and have 25mg of trimipramine at bedtime. I had very vivid dreams, almost nightmares. I'm back on 50mg of clomipramine because my irritable bowel syndrome returned (loose stools). I will ask for doxepin next time, I'm fed up of not having a continuous sleep.
