Hey guys,
So low dose naltrexone is getting some serious momentum for a variety of disorders these days, there is a big and active yahoo and facebook group, and some blogs and websites. many people are reporting very positive effects on mood, like, i've been treatment resistant my whole life, then after LDN, I feel good again. well, not sure about "many" but the reponse is there for many. now, unclear whether their primary disease (say, MS) was what was improving, and the secondary depression improved due to that.but i just wanted to start a thread on this and hear if anyone has any experience trying LDN lately, or what the latest is on it?
pdoc apt. on monday, going to ask him about low dose buprenorphine, and tramadol too....eek...hope i'm not just drug-seeking.

I'm one of the few that doesn't do well with LDN. Too bad. I've tried doses as low as 0.1mg to 3.0mg on multiple attempts and they always feel bad....worsened depression, dysphoric anxiety, pretty much unbearable. I've tried so many times because I think it is a good treatment for a wide variety of issues.
In my case I have seen forums talk about how LDN does the right stuff to the immune system with conditions such as MS, CFS, arthritis, chrons, and many more....but in lyme disease it does the opposite of desirable by boosting the part of the immune system lyme already has abnormally high, and then weakening another part of the immune system that is already too weak due to lyme. It's complicated stuff, but if true would explain why I don't do well with LDN.
I think just about all psych patients should be given a trial, or multiple trials depending on what meds they've changed over time, In some cases it would end up being the magic cure, in most cases it would be a definite benefit worth keeping but not a miracle cure, and for some of us it would be a bust. But for sure I feel strong enough about the potential of LDN I believe it should be widely prescribed.

That sucks.
Perhaps your opioid autoreceptors on nerves signaling dopamine outflow are subsensitive to begin with. A small reduction in autoreceptor stimulation provides little increase in opioid or dopamine release. That leaves only postsynaptic receptors to be blocked with no opioid to compete for occupancy. This would cause dysphoria. I am just guessing.
I can see how LDN could be antidepressive in some conditions. I guess it is analogous to low-dose amisulpiride on the dopamine synapse.

Ok, had pdoc appointment.
We are adding paxil cr 25mg (which i have never taken before) to help with the OCD-type symptoms, hypochondriasis, basically, obsessive self-absorbtion and research into my illness...this seems to come and go every few months, and it's been pretty intense lately, can't seem to stop screwing around with supplaments and spending time (wasting time) with pubmed porn.We are also going to try LDN. Doing at the same time, so it wont be super clear whats responsible, but I know I wont feel anything dramatic from the paroxetine right away, so i figure whatever i feel happening in the first week will be from LDN. Starting LDN tonight at around 2.5mg as i'm a big guy.
Wish me luck.

Really interesting. I was prescribed naltrexone for drinking. Haven't really been taking it--saving it for situations in which I'm tempted--but my pdoc did mention that it might have a relaxing or mood enhancing effect. Maybe I'll try it.
This is the end of the thread.
