But, they still want you to take your SSRI, so they get their money. They don't want you treating depression on your own because it could be risky? Or because if you find relief on your own, you don't need the psychiatrist?
I think they should have compared SAMe augmentation of an SSRI vs. simply SAMe alone.
That way you would get a better idea of which medication is helping. Perhaps those who responded to SAMe augmentation would have responded to SAMe monotherapy. Of course they're not interested however, in demonstrating that.Linkadge

I didn't read your link. I do recall a study in a Boston hospital where they added high dose SAMe to ongoing SSRI and got good results.

Hey all! Wanted an opinion on this topic.
Does anyone know if using SAM-e to augment an SSRI will also address the non-depression indications, such as social anxiety and obsessiveness?
I have a new pdoc. I want to improve my anxiety and concentration issues without going up on my Celexa (25mgs currently), which dampens me and makes me really fairly hedonistic/conscientious. We are about to add a little Klonopin to the mix but I know that's a slippery slope.
I started taking SAM-e 200mgs yesterday while I'm dropping the Celexa to 20mgs. I'm afraid of it making me racy. I'm doing this on my own to see if there's a route other than benzos. I've tried buspar (and still take 5mgs at night). It certainly helps with the focus/anxiety but it also makes me sad and angry.
Any advice would help! thanks much

I found Lyrica (pregabalin) at about 900mg (I am 290, so adjust accordingly) to relieve anxiety in an unconventional way; which is another way of saying I lack the ability to describe it. Benzo's are so hard to get off of once you're a couple months into use that I would recommend only using them occasionally when things are particularly painful. Anxiety is like depressions equally evil twin, it completely sucks in a whole new way. I would also recommend only using the Lyrica occasionally. It works immediately and as I mentioned earlier is interestingly pleasent. Also very tricky to get off after steady use. In short, keep some Lyrica and a Benzo around but use them sparingly.
