Hello- I have been diagnosed with panic attacks, gad, and major depression. I was prescribed zoloft and klonopin. I was unable to continue with zoloft due to weight gain and rls worsening. I did take them 2 1/2 yrs. I was able to stick with a low dose,.50mg at night only, of klonopin while on zoloft, however, since discontinueing zoloft, I am starting to get into my gad state. For now, I have conquered my depression and panic attacks. It's just the intense scrutiny into the problems of daily life that is getting me. I see my psychaitrist next month and was thinking of asking to increase Klonopin. When I mentioned this to my new family doctor recently, he was totally against it, but did agree that I am taking a very small amount. I just would like to know if going up in dosage will really help with gad? Ive tried taking more, a time or 2, but you need a longer trial.Ive always felt with klonopin that Ive had to take the lowest dose possible-guilt maybe? I worry about running out of it,getting hooked, having to withdraw ending up in detox somewhere-gad kicking in? But I want to stop worrying, I want to be the way I was with zoloft on board but that is not a long term med for me. Please advise. Thanks!

If you respond to SSRI's could try another one? Was your doseage high? I've taken low doses of SSRI's SNRI's and didn't gain weight but we are all different. I did take up to 60mg of cymbalta for three months at one time. As for the klonopin how high is the dose. I also know and understand how you feel as also take benzos for many years. Phillipa

Thanks for the suggestions. I am thinking of zoloft in a low dose. I tried lowering klonopin recently just to see what it would do, and I guess I'll be one that has trouble, it was awful, just taking a 1/4 cut out of it. I dont want to be on a benzo forever. Maybe once winter comes, I'll do better. Im nearing menopause, and get a few hot flashes, which certainly doesnt help with benzo tapering. But you know, as soon I took that 1/4 cut later in the day, I felt fantastic. Is there such a thing as a gaba deficiency?

Been through menopause and seriously the most benzos needed ever at that time. Have you looked into bioidentical hormones? Some women feel wonderful on them. Especially the ones that are compounded just for you and your bodies requirements. You lose the estrogen and I wonder if that causes a kind of benzos or gaba deficiency? Phillipa
