I was wondering if anyone would know the answer for me, I'm so lost about it. Years ago, my pdoc started me on dexedrine, adderall, all the different stims, and they all worked incredibly strong, but then the crash was the darkest despair in the world. I wasn't on any kind of AD at the time, so recently when I started adderall again and it worked with absolutely no mood crash, just being a little more tired as it eased out of my system, I was at first taking nortryptylene, then later pristiq. I never had that dreaded dark despair crash from it. Recently I started doing LENs treatments, and the despair crashes began not long after (all I could think of was it changed my brain chemistry somehow, and the AD wouldn't work to prevent a crash anymore???) Can anyone make sense of this, or have a similar experience, or any suggestions? I'm desperate! Thanks! Cydnie

I'd say body chemistry change as ad's used to know me loopy now do nothing. Same with benzos used to make me feel good now just sleep 41 years later. Phillipa

I'd say it was the nortrip and/or Pristiq you took before you started the Adderall. I've had the experience of certain drugs taken before drastically altering the effect of meds taken after. Took me a while to figure out what I actually did and what worked because it seems so illogical but the truth is nobody knows how these drugs work. It's possible the nortrip and/or Pristiq you took before somehow primed your brain receptors for the Adderall to have a positive response. What you can try is to stop taking the Adderall (not too suddenly though) and then go back on the nortip/pristiq for two weeks, then restart the Adderall and see if you can recapture the response. If you're doing well on the Adderall after I'd say stay on it, and don't start anything else. Just a theory of course, but it's worth a shot.

I would love to go back to one of my other meds. I started taking emsam and as much as I would like to keep on with it, I'm having side effects. The problem is the 2 week washout, I'm so scared not to be one something for my depression. What does anyone do? Too scared to do it, so stuck. I think the meds could definitely have changed my chemistry, but then also found out from my doc (he already had some neurology article about adverse reactions) that it can change your brain chemistry, and can change your reaction to your meds! How weird, and surprising, it seems so innocuous, but everytime I had it done, my ears burned, weird, and I got really irritable. The last time I got really irritable, and couldn't stand any noises my poor husband made. It was crazy, and I was kinda scary :) Some people it works so well for, but I don't ever want to do it again!

You could increase the dose of ADs. What are LENs? Stop the adderal for a while and start it again later if you need it.

Hey there, LENs is neurofeedback. Seemed like everything stopped working after my last LENs treatment, so I stopped it (emsam). But I read about it online, and neurofeedback can cause adverse reactions. A lot of times, I've noticed, doctors disagree with eachother about whether or not things happen! One will say it chances brain chemistry, and another will say it doesn't! Then you can read a ton of neurological journals, and pretty much decide for yourself :) That's what I eventually did!

Sorry your reactions to Adderall are unpleasant...I can commiserate! I go nuts (first feel high/euphoric, then irritable, then impatient w/ every little thing, then down right nasty mean...not a pretty picture) on as little as 2.5 mg of the stuff and then CRASH as you described.
Anyhow, for what it is worth...as someone who does equine therapy using a type of bio-feedback modality...if the device that is being used involves any type of electric current going into your body, that electric current will travel along your neural pathways back to the brain which trigger a neuro-chemical response. Frankly, everything we do in life causes a neuro-chemical reaction. It has to do with perception; both conscious and unconscious. That is how a person or any living being survives. Being that the bipolar brain has a screwy fight/flight response system has a lot to do with (IMO) the varied and inconsistent responses to medication. If perception is constantly changing so are the chemicals in the brain especially in one that is on constant defense.
Not sure that this blurb answers anything for you or even has much relevance to the topic, but a little food for thought that may clue you in to other life changes that might also be key in figuring out a cocktail that works. Hope things work out for you very soon.
This is the end of the thread.
