Okay Laney memory short your signature says zoloft with paxil. So you are combining both zoloft and paxil at what dose. I know per pdoc and still the nortrip and now that is not helping? Working right you that is? Been awhile. And geez if paxil worked for 14 years for you you would think this certainly would work for you. No menopause yet as that does change things chemical wise found that out myself. If not and bet asked it before peri? Phillipa

I think that the TCAs as a class are less likely than the SSRIs to induce refractoriness to that drug upon repeated drug exposures. In other words, I think there is a tendency for an SSRI to self-induce a refractoriness against subsequent treatment attempts. Nortriptyline seems more likely to allow one to "recapture" the initial antidepressant response, even after a period of abstinence.

I have to figure out to change my signature information but for now I've been taking Nortrip since June with fairly good results until it pretty much quit working. My doctor upped it about 7-10 days ago and now I just feel like I'm revved up and speedy most of the time. It seems like it worked quicker before. I feel lots of snxiety and I can talk excessively, etc. and it's driving me nuts the way I feel. What do you think?
Thanks!

I have been on Nortrip for more than 2 years in combo with Lexapro and Mirtazapin. My dosage used to be 110 mh Nort, 10 mg Lex and 10-15 mg Mirtz.
It was not perfect but I am sure the Nort is the most important and strongest. The 2 other did not work on their own and I used them to augment the Nort and for sleep (Mirtz)I am currently on 75 mg Nort and just started up 50 mg Valdoxan also as a new dep. episode broke out after taper off of all 3 meds a bit too fast in the autum of 2010 and (stupidly) stressing myself too much at the same time...
As to what you describe, I can reconize the thing about talking too much and be speedy but that is also part of the normal me - I just get easier carried away I guess.
I dont have anxiety so dont know about this...
Have you had your bloodlevels checked for Nort?> I have to figure out to change my signature information but for now I've been taking Nortrip since June with fairly good results until it pretty much quit working. I suspect that Nortriptyline has not lost it's effectiveness, I bet your pharmacy just changed which drug company they purchased your supply from. I have been taking Nortriptyline for 13 or 14 years now, and just in the last few months had some months that my Nortriptyline didn't seem to work at all, like I had been given a placebo when I filled my prescription. I talked to my doctor about it, they told me to talk to the pharmacist.
I talked to the pharmacist, explained which months my Nortriptyline didn't work, and they explained that my prescription had come from a different company the months that it didn't work! For me, the months it was refilled with Nortriptyline from TEVA, it didn't work for me. The company who makes the Nortriptyline that has always worked for me, is WATSON.
There are other posts on here about this issue,
under "Nortriptyline Generic or Brand Favorites?", it was nice to find out that it wasn't only me having the issue! LOL!:)Tumorfarmer
