I went up to 75mg. along with my 20mg. paxil because it no longer helped (nort.) and so far after close to two weeks the nort. is still not helping. Should I give it more time? It seems like it worked fairly quickly last time.
Thanks for your replies.

Have you been on 75 mg for two weeks? Two weeks probably isn't long enough for a reuptake inhibitor type drug. I would give it another two weeks and maybe get drug levels tested.

Yes, approx. two weeks at 75mg. But like I said it seemed to work much quicker when I first started it. Thanks! Yes, I will get levels tested.
P.S. Are tricyclics reuptake inhibitors?
Thanks!

> LaneyWith the exception of Tianeptine, almost all of the tricyclic antidepressants are reuptake inhibitors. Nortriptyline blocks the reuptake of norepinephrine fairly strongly and the reuptake of serotonin moderately. They do a lot of other things as well, but the reuptake type of mechanisms seem to take awhile to work. Blocking of postsynaptic receptors seems to work a lot faster like histamine making you tired and D2 blockade with antipsychotics works fairly quickly.
