The voices that were distracting me are getting less distracting. Part of the reason, I think, is that I'm visiting family and I realize now that the small town that terrorized me for so long has moved on in my absence; maybe they have a new person/people to talk about.
Part of it is medication. I'm taking 35mgs/day abilify for 2 weeks, then back down to 30. My doctor also added in 20mgs/day celexa. I feel calmer and, like I said, the voices are less of a problem.
Question is...should I be medicating this? My therapist wants to explore some of what the voices have been saying. My psychiatrist medicated me w/o even asking any questions about what I wanted to do; he just went to medicatin', which I guess is how shrinks (particularly old school ones) operate.
Am I doing the right thing by following doctor's orders? I'm not a crazy cocktail or anything, but still...I wonder...
Thanks in advance.

I'm so glad you're feeling calmer. That's priceless. If your meds have turned torment to a whisper, I think that can be a great place for therapeutic work. My one therapist asked me to go on meds to get some 'traction'. Does that make sense? I could still hear (inside my head) the thoughts, and I had a little breathing room to work with them.
Good Luck.

I think it's a good idea to stay on the cocktail that your doctor has prescribed. I have heard voices before and it's scary and destracting. You know what the voices were saying and the effect they had on you so you and your psychologist can explore that. I don't think it is ethical of him to want you to be unmedicated so that you can explore the voices.

If youre having mild psychosis youll want to weigh staying on an antipsychotic. That is, the benefit versus any side effects short term and long term.
Abilify doesnt have a bad rep for weight gain but if you do gain weight on it, sometimes metformin helps.
Medication helps the therapy process a lot because the pain of depression and anxiety is lessened, you can tolerate digging deeper into the trauma that caused it. Your defenses will fight you harder if they think you cant bear to deal with whatever it is youre holding back.
