My wife was on 12.5 mg paxil for 2 weeks and decided to discontinue. It made her way too sleepy but she said it helped stabilize her mood.
Any idea of what she might try next? Her MD prescribed 20mg of Celexa to try next. Any opinions? I know it's the generic of Lexapro. Is Lexapro expensive even with good insurance?

Is Lexapro expensive even with good insurance?Did the doctors consider adding something like Provigil to help with the sedation caused by the Paxil. It seems like such a shame to discontinue a med that was helping. What it she took it at night? Was she still really sedated the next day? Also, she was only on it for 2 weeks. The sedation may have resolved itself in a couple more weeks.

I found Seroxat to be one of the best SSRIs out there. The side effects were the most troublesome out of all the SSRIs though - weight gain, complete loss of libido and yes, excessive sleepiness!!You could try Prozac - I seemed to do reasonably well on that, but I found Seroxat more effective - especially when combined with a low dose of Stelazine.

Try it. She could take half a tablet for one week then one tablet.

> Celexa ..... I know it's the generic of Lexapro.
That's not exactly the case. They are more like brother & sister. Celexa being the older and cheaper (no longer patent-protected) sibling.I'm not sure on the current price of Lexapro, though. The generic of Celexa, citalopram, is on the $4 list, I believe.
