I only got out bed today 5 pm and I am going back to bed now. (5:40). I lay there and cry or sleep. I haven't bathed today which is bad for me because usually I will shower no matter how bad I feel.
So how long will I do this for? I don't know. I guess once the pain go away.
What is the longest you have bein bedridden and what finally got you out of bed?

If I lived on my own I could see myself doing this for months. However, I live with my mum. She is elderly and has Alzheimers. But she can still be a firecracker and will NOT let me stay in bed all. She starts crying and I guess that is manipulation ... but it worked on me today. I did feel better after having a bath though. I am a bit OCD about being clean. Other than that, there was no reason for me to get up.
I hope you feel better soon Zyprexa. I know that Zyprexa works quickly so that's positive. Why did you go off it?

When I was severely depressed last summer, I barely got out of bed for about 6 weeks. After two weeks of not showering or washing my hair, my daughter, who came down from Canada to try to take care of me, forced me to get up and shower. Then I went back to bed. They call this atypical depression, when all you want to do is sleep and avoid life. I didn't sleep the entire time, sometimes I laid in bed and cried and sometimes I made plans to kill myself. I spent four of those six weeks in a hospital. For me, the depression lifted once I started on parnate. I know parnate hasn't really worked for you. I hope you feel better soon. I didn't find that forcing myself up and about helped at all. My husband and daughter would insist I accompany them to a movie and as soon as I got home, I would go back to bed. I don't know what to tell you. I think, as I said in another post, that you should go to an ER if you are suicidal.

I was talking about in the past! I learned my lesson after the first few times I went off it. Now I don't go off it anymore and my problems a much fewer.

When on break from school and had to make a decision I lay on the couch for two weeks but got up to bath, do other things also but at the end of the two weeks the decision was made. Also after the birth of my third she was up 24 hours a day was hospitalized cold turkeyed all meds and lay on couch for two weeks. Wow felt like walking on a boat when got up to shower. But then I went back on a small dose of valium and was fine. Phillipa

Thank you for your story. I think that the Parnate is working for me but that life events are stronger than the Parnate. I feel like my life is out of my control. Looking for work, being fired after a week, financial problems, living with my mom (and caring for her)who has Alzheimers. I think most people would be overwhelmed.
I think I will end up in the hospital. The crisis team is coming on Monday and I have an appt with my pdoc.
I wish my mum had just let me stay in bed all day. I don't see the purpose of getting out of bed. Life is not worth living. I am just existing so I might as well just exist in bed. I am such a burden to everyone. Worthless.

Maxine,
You are not alone. I have slept days away before. It is one facet of the illness, I think. You just want to be alone and in the dark.
Sometimes the only things that got me up and about were doctor or therapist appointments!
Please don't beat yourself up about this. It will pass.

I'm coming up on 3 months with the exception of dragging myself off to see my GP, T and pdoc and that is a massive struggle.
