I can't find a good pdoc, does anyone have any good ideas/advice for how to do it?
i have ptsd/major depression recurrent/anxiety and I guess a few other things (somatic disorder, eg). it's all i can do to make it through the day and i hate calling around to find people and they aren't taking new patients, etc. i feel like there is no where to get any help. thanks

Where do you live? Perhaps you could put yourself on a wait list for several pdocs and see who calls you first. Also, you can call for an appt. and request that they call you if they have any cancellations.
There is no secret to finding a good pdoc. It's hit and miss.
Just out of curiosity, what would consider to be a good pdoc? What are you looking for in a pdoc?

> Just out of curiosity, what would consider to be a good pdoc? What are you looking for in a pdoc?I live in St. Paul, MN. Every pdoc seems to have wait lists. I'm looking for someone who has experience in ptsd, which is quite difficult, unless it's at the va, and I'm not a vet. I've had good and bad experiences with nurse practitioners and for awhile I just had my family practitioner, but I (and my husband) think that an actual pdoc would be more helpful...it's been so frustrating. I seem to have some drug-resistant issues (insomnia is the biggest) and an actual psychiatrist might be able to help address these issues. Right now I'm taking lamictal, effexor, busbar and seroquel and i'm holding steady, but I really think it could be better...Thank you!

Where I live (Canada) you can wait up to 12 months to find one because there is such a shortage. Sometimes going to the ER helps and they might be able to get you in sooner to see someone. I really hope you find someone soon (sooner)

You could call or go online with your insurance company to find a doctor. Thats what I did. They gave me a list of pdocs that were accepting new patients. It also listed what the doctors are specialized in, like ptsd or anxiety, etc.

Zyprexa's advice is much better than mine. I forgot about the whole insurance thing in the US and how you can pick your doctor. As a Canadian, that is so novel to me.

Sorry forgot you were in CA. You could get a referal from you doctor or look in the phone book. Ask a friend. Maybe some one on pbable is in CA. When I was in CA, my parents brought me to the doctor, no idea how they knew. Think they just asked around.
