Possibly lower mood but improve rapid cycling?

Posted by alchemy on August 25, 2010, at 20:27:22

SSRIs & SSNRIs have helped me a little in the past, but they may be contributing to the rapid cycling.

My mood is never really good. Just cycling between not-so-good and bad. Including being tired all day vs. energy, anxiousness, brain can't handle anything, etc. There is no pattern, but usually the same issues and/or mood are around 2-4 days. I can already feel that I'm going a little downwards.

I've tried almost everything. My dr. thinks my next trial should be replacing my Celexa with Zoloft, Pristiq, or Effexor. I have already been on Zoloft & Effexor, but not with this combo. I have real doubts that this change will do much if anything. But I do at least feel like it is a "safe" change compared to other meds I've tried that haved made me much worse.

My mix:
400 Lamictal
30 Celexa
300 Wellbutrin
2mg Xanax

Maybe the next trial should be to decrease the Celexa or Wellbutrin...? But there are two issues.
1) Depression
2) Cycling
Decreasing the Celexa may likely lower my mood and maybe the Wellbutrin. Which med is more likely to induce cycling? I would assume Celexa.

However, something in this mix does quiet my agitation. And that may be the Celexa. And I do have some PMS, and SSRIs help with that.

Whenever I raised the Lamictal dose I did not really notice any mood changes. I have tried to increase the Celexa & Wellbutrin, but all they did was give me side effects. The Celexa made me sweat more, and the Wellbutrin caused constipation.

See above post too

The most important thing is to keep your ad at the lowest possible dose in combination with a mood stabilizer to prevent cycling and exacerbating your depression.

Why such a high dose of Lamictal? Is it possible you're "over-stabilized"?

Can you replace the Celexa with Lexapro? It has a better effect on me, although Celexa + Wellbutrin was pretty good at keeping me steady, Lexapro + Wellbutrin boosts me up to a better place.

Also, do you or are you able to get talk therapy? When we have spent a long time in depression, our brains have been overstuffed in some areas and underfed in others. So our personalities / perspectives can become a bit warped. At least that's true for me. Talk therapy, when I can get it, really gives me a refresher in how to be happier.

Tough question and you do seem to know your body. Also I sense a gut feeling if so I'd try that first. Phillipa

After I posted this I went back through my mood logs. Nothing has really changed as I have increased any of them over the last 3 years. Although I do think taking them helps.

I have been to quite a few counselors over the years. One of them said she didn't think she was helping but it was nice to talk. One of them said that I need to get my meds adjusted. They are usually like being able to talk to a friend with some positive pointers. I don't think with my limited budget right now they are worth the money. Hell, I read Feeling Good when I was probably in my early teens.

I am trying to come to grips with the idea that this may be as good as it gets. But I don't think I can accept that when my mood gets worse. I have been tried so many meds and most of them make me worse. I don't know. I just don't know.
