I can't sleep without it, and I hate taking it. I am steadfastly refusing to take it tonight, but it's going to be daylight soon....how nice. :-/

I am reviewing suggestions given above for something for anxiety/agitation that is not seroquel, thanks for that folks :-)

I realize I was just complaining about how sedating this medication is.
what I really hate is needing it to sleep and feeling groggy after the fact.
I just want to sleep like a "normal" human being.

It would be nice, wouldn't it?
In the last 2 days I've had maybe 6 hours sleep. It's a long time since I've slept like one should, like children do.
So, OK, benzos aren't the answer, they damage sleep architecture, inhibit melatonin synthesis and godknows what else, but they are humane. Only the addictive drugs are humane, as we have learned to accept. There's herbs. If they work they might be addictive too, but at least they are humane. I've never bothered with the AAPs...the older ones were enough for me. I have a feeling that long term benzo use has f*ck*d up my brain and therefore sleep. Not really many good options.

I remember the days where 1 ambien put me out. Now it takes 200mg of Seroquel. Sleep Phase Disorder. Ugh.

Good luck getting off Seroquel, I'm sure you can do it. I still think you should try a very small dose of Zyprexa instead, if no natural alternatives help. If it ends up that Seroquel is the only thing that helps you sleep, Zyprexa may be the only alternative. You can do things to prevent the weight gain. And if you do gain weight initially, the effect should wear off and you should be able to lose most of it eventually.

No post, just agreeing. If I were a doctor, seroquel would probably be one of the least prescribed meds in my practice. Not just my own opinion based on my own experience, but watching what others have said here over many years. Hard to find stories where it was a great med. They exist, but very few. Way over-prescribed in my opinion.
