I know that fluvoxamine is supposedly more effective than other SSRI's for psychotic depression. Are the MAOI's a good option for psychotic depression?

I think it would depend on "style" of the psychotic depression, whether the person was bipolar, etc. I read somewhere that lithium+parnate were good for psychotic depression, but I'm guessing that was some old school bipolar medicatin'.
They used to make a combo pill with stelazine and parnate...1mg parnate per 10mgs parnate. I'm guessing it was for mixed depression, or maybe it was kind of like an amphetamine-less upper/downer combo like the ones so popular back in the day...at any rate, I could see the more stimulating MAOIs being useful in psychotic depression; they apparently sometimes use Ritalin along with neuroleptics in some cases.I would think symbyax would be the current go-to drug. Amoxapine was for a while. Just based on my own experience, monotherapy with 10mgs or so of Abilify might be a good idea.
good luck.

Takes you back, doesn't it? Parstellin in the MIMS along with Stelladex.

I'm on Parnate and Geodon and my psychotic mixed states are completely controlled (my psychosis is in my mixed states and not in depression, though)

I have psychotic depression and take parnate with perphenazine. I can't tolerate the AAP's - they make me gain weight like crazy. I take only 12 mg perphenazine and it seems to work without side effects. At one time, I was taking 36mg and had bad akathesia and my p-doc (who hadn't precribed that dose -- it had been raised in the hospital) was alarmed about the possibliity of TD, so cut me way back.

That's a great question that I don't know the answer to. Traditionally, the TCAs have been used for psychotic depression. Amoxapine, because of its antipsychotic properties, had been the preferred choice of TCA for awhile. I have seen Wellbutrin work in combination with Seroquel.
