Ed_uk and Bleauberry,
You both have differing opinions as to withdrawl from paxil. I think you Ed said that I should be able to go off of it pretty quickly and Bleauberry I think you said I'll still need to taper slowly. Dr. Gillman thinks I should just be able to go off now that I'm on the Sertraline. I want to error on the side of caution and go kinda slow. I halved it to 5mg. and will stay there for a month probably and then see how that goes and then go slower from there. I do have liquid paxil if I want to go supper slow at the end. Opinions???
Thanks guys!

I've done switch overs many times with SSRI's. If you had to completely withdraw from Paxil without having another SSRI to switch over to, you would have to do a slow taper. However, as you have started Zoloft, you should be able to stop taking the Paxil. If you feel some discontinuation symptoms, just take a very small amount of Paxil for another two or three days, then stop.
Zoloft was my favourite med. I hope you do well on it.
Take care.

Hi there,
Now that you're on 100mg of sertraline (Zoloft), it seems unlikely that you will have significant withdrawal symptoms from paroxetine. Like paroxetine, sertraline is a potent SSRI.
>I want to error on the side of caution and go kinda slow. I halved it to 5mg. and will stay there for a month probably and then see how that goes and then go slower from there.
Once you've been on 5mg/day for a short while, I imagine that you will be able to stop completely.
My experience of stopping paroxetine was that I had no withdrawal symptoms when paroxetine was replaced with a different SSRI.

Hi there,
Thanks for the input. I'm just a little freaked out I guess from my past tapers. Bleauberry had said in an older post to me that I would likely have to still go slow. I think he meant even if I were to switch to a different SSRI? But he also said he didn't think SSRI's would work for me anymore now that I've been on paxil so many years? We'll see.
Thanks again guys and gals,
Laney

Now that you're on a substantial dose of a different SSRI, I think you will be fine going for 5mg Paxil to zero after a couple of weeks. Of course, you will need to taper gradually if you decide to stop Zoloft in future!
>But he also said he didn't think SSRI's would work for me anymore now that I've been on paxil so many years?
We'll see. It sounds like nortriptyline is next on your list if it doesn't help.
This is the end of the thread.
