Lorazepam (caused dysphoria ) with Lexapro taper

Posted by Vic80 on May 2, 2010, at 5:06:51

Rx: Lexapro 20mg -> 10mg (felt great for 4 days then the madness started), upped it back to 15mg, now tapering down - 12.5mg to last till another week.
Lorazepam: Basically Rxed to aid sleep onset, then rxed for 'anxiety'(pdoc calls w/d symptoms as rebound anxiety!)
lorazepam: 0.5mg-0.5mg-1mg

The day starts with feeling absolutely flat and sick, songs and words stuck in my head, constant observation of symptoms, acute apathy and indifference, unease and a general feeling of losing it....
have 12.5mg Lexapro, in half hour 0.5mg Lorazepam.... takes around 30 mins to kick in, keeps me dulled and numbed for 2 hours, then it starts to wear off - starts with mild sedation, malaise and irritability and turns into dysphoria, antagonism and disgust.

The second dose in afternoon does the same, but the post-effect the dysphoria is stronger.

Night - 1mg calms me down, though I feel a bit zombiefied, given me good sleep.
I wake up feeling sick - apathetic and anhedonic

Have neve felt such anhedonia and apathy before - like someone could slap me for no reason and I'll just not bother.... no pleasure out of anything at all...

(have been on lex for just 4 months)
Lex withdrawal OR lorazepam side effect OR if this is just depression without the melancholia and somatic symptoms like insomnia, appetite and fatigue.....?????

You might feel better if you stop the daytime doses of lorazepam and just take 0.5mg to 1mg at night for sleep. Do not take lorazepam for more than a couple of weeks unless it is absolutely unavoidable. Physical dependence can develop very rapidly.

Four weeks isn't very long to have been on the lexapro and it wasn't working hence off it? For some reason I used to just stop a med and nothing? My next door neighbor just tappered in three days off lamictal and is fine. But she's like me both of us have been on benzos for years her 30 years me 40years. Her doc says not to worry about the xanax she takes 4-6mg and he said average dose is up to 10mg. I didn't know that as only take 1.5mg myself. And your ativan is low. Maybe depression? Phillipa

Xanax is a very potent benzo Phillipa. There is nothing average about 10mg! 10mg is an extremely high dose. 4-6mg per day is a high dose. 1.5mg per day is a moderate dose. 0.5mg per day is a low dose.

Ed I thought so also but seems those that do prescribe benzos do higher doses. Too high for me. Love PJxx
