i had four glasses of wine two nights ago while on prozac and my akathisia has returned with a vengeance; it's so bad that i can't leave bed. i just lie around, writhing. i'm meant to fly out on monday, but don't know how i'll possibly manage in this state.
can alcohol exacerbate akathisia? i have some dexamphetamine on hand. would that help?

i figured the best advice he could offer is stop prozac, which still leaves two weeks for it to clear from my system. i took 10mg of dexamphetamine and it's helping, so that should hopefully tide me over for the next couple days til i reach australia.
but damn, akathisia is a living nightmare. makes everything else i've suffered from up til this point look like child's play

Boy I never want to get it that's for sure. Hope the prozac is out of your system enough to help. Update? Love Phillipa

i'm still taking prozac. i was curious if alcohol can cause akathisia to escalate, because i don't want to just stop the prozac willy-nilly .. though akathisia has been a recurring problem on the drug
for what it's worth, dexedrine (now 15mg) has completely eliminated the problem

You need to be taking some propanalol, artane or cogentin.

Geodon gives me that want to die akathesia for some reason. Cogentin eliminated it.....

Weird, it's interesting that dexadrine helped when it seems that it might worsen it.
Just an idea- magnesium.

I'm sorry ggg, and glad you found something, however curious, that's providing some relief.

I sympathize -- when I first went on Remeron, it gave me the worst akathisia I have ever experienced; I was closer to suicide than my depression has ever made me. The classic remedies for anti-psychotic med. induced akathisia such as cogentin or procyclidine didn't help at all. Ropinirole (Requip, Ropark, Adartrel) helped me greatly later on and has some AD adjuvant properties as well.

However, i also had massive sugar cravings and carb cravings and was binge eating etc. so that (and will power) has worked for me by stopping them. If you are hypoglycemic alcohol is a bit of a no no as well i think. Basically i think sugars/carbs can excaberate akathisia (a lot of the symptoms of hypoglycemia correlate with those in akathisia) and this may or may not be the case in your situation?
Mganesium (not oxide) is always a good (and relatively safe) bet i think.

thanks for everyone's concern and helpful advice. i'm pretty sure the akathisia was offset by alcohol use (i never usually drink), as it has pretty much abated over these past couple of days.
as a protective measure, i upped my dose of n-acetyl-cysteine, as there is a study on here (posted by desolationrower) showing its usefulness in treating akathisia
