Hi,
I'm starting week 2 of Parnate and am finding that after about two hours of taking it my whole body feels exhausted. It isn't really drowsiness, it is more like all of the muscle's in my body just become really tired and just getting my eyes to focus is difficult. It is the same feeling i used to get from taking Sudafed (something else that usually has stimulating effects?)
Does anyone know if this will go away?
So far I have been splitting the doses (10mg in morning and 10mg in evening), do you know of any reason why i can't take them both at the same time, and at night? I know the reasoning for taking it earlier in the day is to help avoid insomnia (something I already have a problem with), but i have been able to get some sleep (albeit unsatisfying) after taking this in the evening. Thanks for any answers you may have.

I get the same from sudafed. Maybe the parnate is too stimulating? Is that possible? Phillipa

it is weird, i haven't found it very stimulating exactly, though i think i need less sleep, so that's something...

I've been on Parnate since Dec 18th. Started w/ 10mg, then 20, then 30, now 40.
Definitely had afternoon (mainly) fatigue in the beginning. Doesn't seem as bad now and when I got to higher dosages and can take 2 to 3 10mg pills at the same time I definitely started noticing a mild stimulating effect.
20mg is still pretty low (30 is usually the minimum therapeutic dose). I'd give it some time and hopefully if you move up that'll alleviate the fatigue.
Just my .02.

Hi even:
I've been taking Parnate since May. When I first started it, it made me so tired I took it all at night. As it made me less tired I started taking it throughout the day, then all in the morning. My pdoc said it's ok to take it anytime and in whatever way it works for you. Most of the side effects did go away for me, except a big one. I became allergic to it which is extremely uncommon.I think you can look forward to having most SE's go away as time goes on and the diet is a breeze once you get used to it.
Good luck!! Parnate is a great med!!!

Same thing happened to me at doses less than 30mg, it never went away so i could take it at night if i need to use it for sleep.
To get a stimulating effect rather than drowsiness i had to take 30mg in one go, not spread out.

Hi Even:
I have had serious allergies for 15 years; never had any as a kid. Now I seem to be getting more and more autoimmune problems/diseases all the time. My WORST has been Rheumatoid Arthritis which gets so bad I can't move or take care of myself and am in severe pain. It comes and goes. It's crazy (or maybe I am!)
When I took the Parnate I had a very very strange reaction to it which I've never heard of anyone else ever having.
It was hard for me to get on Panate, lots of side effects. When I got up to 70-80mg/day I had a big breakthrough and felt WONDERFUL! .. Better than I had since I first got depressed years ago!! Nothing else I have taken made me feel so deeply good!! That lasted 6 0r 8 weeks and BOOM, I became extremely dizzy, itched constantly, terribly from head to toe,(I would scratch until I bled), had horrid freezing chills and the RA at its painful worst came down on me hard. I felt like I was full of some poisonous chemicals that were killing me. I toughed it out for a while hoping it would subside, but it didn't. So now I'm very gradually coming down on the Parnate.
I'm really bummed and disappointed!! I thought Parnate was IT for me, forever!!
That's why I talk about being "allergic" to it, but it's probably more like a chemical intolerance or sensitivity or something like that that is very unique to me.
No one else that I have ever heard of has had that experience. So DO NOT worry!!
Parnate has some side effects which generally go away fairly quickly. It is a great long term medication and works for many people when nothing else does. Some people take it very successfully for 25-30 years!! It can act a little crazy at first, but it calms down so much you don't even know you're taking anything! And the diet is really easy after you get used to it.
I hope you are one of the many many success stories on Parnate. It sometimes needs some augmentation and tweaking, but you CAN get it to work wonderfully for you!!
Good luck!

Do what works with your body. I take 100 mg of parnate all in one go in the morning with no trouble. I don't see why you can't take it all at night if it makes you so tired. Good luck.

thanks for all your comments.
i am finding it is making me less tired than it used to already.unfortunately my mood hasn't improved yet (i thought it did after the first 4 or 5 days, but maybe that was placebo. either way, didn't seem to last). going up to 30mg tomorrow though, so maybe that will help.

I didn't have a positive effect from Parnate until I reached 30 mg (but I take 100 mg). I hope it's the same for you!!! This med will help you.

thanks for the kind words, Maxime.
i have been on it 3 weeks now and am definitely feeling a little bit better. just went up to 30mg today (have had to increase slowly due to orthostatic hypotension) and am hoping i'll get more out of it.
