Hi Even:
I have had serious allergies for 15 years; never had any as a kid. Now I seem to be getting more and more autoimmune problems/diseases all the time. My WORST has been Rheumatoid Arthritis which gets so bad I can't move or take care of myself and am in severe pain. It comes and goes. It's crazy (or maybe I am!)
When I took the Parnate I had a very very strange reaction to it which I've never heard of anyone else ever having.
It was hard for me to get on Panate, lots of side effects. When I got up to 70-80mg/day I had a big breakthrough and felt WONDERFUL! .. Better than I had since I first got depressed years ago!! Nothing else I have taken made me feel so deeply good!! That lasted 6 0r 8 weeks and BOOM, I became extremely dizzy, itched constantly, terribly from head to toe,(I would scratch until I bled), had horrid freezing chills and the RA at its painful worst came down on me hard. I felt like I was full of some poisonous chemicals that were killing me. I toughed it out for a while hoping it would subside, but it didn't. So now I'm very gradually coming down on the Parnate.
I'm really bummed and disappointed!! I thought Parnate was IT for me, forever!!
That's why I talk about being "allergic" to it, but it's probably more like a chemical intolerance or sensitivity or something like that that is very unique to me.
No one else that I have ever heard of has had that experience. So DO NOT worry!!
Parnate has some side effects which generally go away fairly quickly. It is a great long term medication and works for many people when nothing else does. Some people take it very successfully for 25-30 years!! It can act a little crazy at first, but it calms down so much you don't even know you're taking anything! And the diet is really easy after you get used to it.
I hope you are one of the many many success stories on Parnate. It sometimes needs some augmentation and tweaking, but you CAN get it to work wonderfully for you!!
Good luck!
