Medication Question

Posted by BenDover on January 13, 2010, at 16:35:07

I have been on medication merry go round for over 10 years (combination of self medication and prescribed). The last few years has been a combination of Effexor and Remeron. My compliance has been spotty due to self medicating with booze and weed. Bottom line, I have recommitted to being sober (almost 5 months) and am taking Celexa because I have no insurance plus I cannot handle the Remeron withdrawal. My question is this, what TCA can I/should I take with Celexa to compensate for insomnia? Have been on Celexa (40mg) for over a month and lack of sleep is literally killing me. My PDoc charges $150/hour for me to tell him what I think I should be taking so I thought this forum would be as effective. Seriously, I really need some help with this and appreciate all input.

Welcome to PB! I would try amitriptaline or Surmontil to help you with your sleep. I'm sorry that I don't know the dosages that you would need, but you could discuss that with you doctor.

Let us know what you decide.

Hi,

Elavil (amitriptyline) is an extremely good sleep aid.
There are no interactions between Celexa and Elavil.

The dose required would be 30-50 mg.
You should take the pills two hours before bedtime.

Best regards,
X-ray

P.S. I've been on Elavil for 37 years.
