Switching from SSRI to Stablon

Posted by Normal on January 2, 2010, at 19:07:04

I am currently taking Lexapro and will be starting Stablon soon.

Changing medications is very easy, such as changing an SSRI for another or adding an SNRI etc, but this seems a little more complicated.

I would like to know the best ways to transition from an SSRI to this because they both work on the same chemical but in different ways.

Besides tapering off the SSRI completely and starting the Stablon, how easy is it to add Stablon while tapering down off of the SSRI?

Can you mix the 2 together for a short while as you come off the SSRI or will that cause complete chaos?

Anyway, just wanted to know all the available options for transitioning from Lexapro to Stablon.

Thank you for your help

A few years ago, I tapered off Zoloft quite rapidly (no discontinuation symptoms) and then started taking Stablon right away, ramping up to the full recommended dose within 3 days - 1 pill 1st day, 2 pills on the second, 3 pills on the 3rd etc.

I don't recall having any problems whatsoever.

Welcome to babble, BTW :) I'm new to the site too.

Wow, sounds like its not that hard. How has taking Stablon been working for you?

Well, this was about 5 years ago, I'm now on different meds - and seeing a different doctor and therapist.

The Stablon worked very well, with no side effects that I can recall, except for one: it affected my sleep patterns in a very weird way, lots of intense/lucid dreams... it wasn't unpleasant, just strange.

Anyway, it was particularly effective for anxiety, it allowed me to lower my benzo intake drastically. I really liked it because it didn't blunt my emotions at all (unlike most of the SSRIs I've tried).

I took the Stablon for about a year, at which point my doc (and I) decided that my depression was in remission and took me off it... I was med-free for another year, only taking a low dose of Klonopin.

As a side note, IME Stablon worked well for the mild/moderate depression and anxiety I was experiencing at that time. When I crashed big time a year later, Stablon didn't do much, so I had to move on to something else.

Hope this helps!
