savella for depression

Posted by resurrection on October 11, 2009, at 18:07:56

I have crawled out of bed today for the first time in a couple of weeks. I have been on zoloft or three-four years. A sleep study nuerologist from Europe offered me an Rx of savella 50mg bid. But she no longer follows me. My family doc. retired last month, and I can't see another one for six weeks. My meds are all gone...so I think that not only have i been feeling that old depression, but also withdrwal. I found a psychologist on the phone and she is "booked" and referred me to the ER. I don't think I want to start down the road of hospitalizations for many reasons. Will you help me?

Welcome kind of slow on babble today. I feel a lot others will pop on and offer advise I might not have. Assuming your in Europe. Does the ER mean definitely the hospital? If you explained you ran out of meds wouldn't they prescibe the zoloft for you? Was it working well. So sorry you are having to endure withdrawal and no doc. Can't call the neurologist? Why did they offer savella? And reason for neurological consults? Phillipa

What happened to the Savella? I feel that was actually an excellent choice to followup after a Zoloft poopout. Though I think the starting dose of 50 b.i.d was too high.

You need something you can get your hands on real fast. Whatever it is, brace for a possible rough ride. That's not uncommon when a longterm med is stopped.

St Johns Wort is readily available, as is Rhodiola Rosea. Don't underestimate the power of those herbs. Rhodiola works faster. You will likely need something calming, my best prediction, get some Lemon Balm tincture and Passionflower tincture also. And for a general whole-body and mind soother/energizer/antidepressant Cordyceps mushroom.

Real good herbs for depression are availabe in USA for international shipping from a Dr Zhang (Lyme, HIV, and Hepatitis specialist). His herbal prescriptions are not intended for depression, but they just happen to work real well for it and fast. Specifically I'm thinking of CirculationP and AI#3.

Albizia Julibrissin. Free & Easy Wanderer. Some very good ones, hardly heard of outside the communities of serious ailments where depression happens to be a serious problem and these things work for them when multiple meds did not.

I would not want to go to the ER either, because sometimes they are not much help and the outcome might not be improved. They can save your life if it is that serious, in which case that is the very best thing to do. It would buy you some time and put you in a safe place to detox, settle, and gather your strength and thoughts. Miracles do walk out of the hospital often enough to give hope, you could be one of them.

You do have some great herbs available. I would not hesitate to do that. That is something you can do right now, today, tomorrow, without delay.

I focused most of this response on the herbal categories because I have come to view psychotropic pharmaceuticals as much too narrow in scope when treating disease. I feel strongly most depressions are caused elsewhere in the body, not the brain. The brain is the final target that receives the assault. The above mentioned herbs cover a wide spectrum of biodysfunctions that impact the brain directly.

Hello, Welcome to Babble.

I don't think hospitals will just hospitalize you for being depressed or even for having suicidal thoughts. They should only hospitalize you if you are very psychotic or will harm yourself or others.

Can you go to a walk-in clinic with your old bottles of prescriptions and get a doctor to give you refills? You really shouldn't just cold turkey your meds and I think most doctors would understand. Savella is just an SSRI isn't it? It is not an addictive med so I don't see why you would have trouble getting a doctor to prescribe it.

Even though the psychologist is booked, it might be a good idea to be put on the waiting list and just book an appointment far in advance. Time flies so maybe before you know it, you will have an appointment.

Oh I totally agree. That's why I favor some of these herbs, since they work in complex poorly understood ways to balance hormonal dysfunctions.
