do low AP-doses increase anxiety?

Posted by g_g_g_unit on September 30, 2009, at 17:09:26

people have mentioned using things like low-dose Zyprexa and Abilify to help with motivation and clear thinking. at such doses, taken without augmentation, is there typically an increase in anxiety as well?

Hi g_g_g,

I tried low doses of Seroquel, risperidone, amisulpride and ziprasidone.
The former 2 were calming me a lot, but I also felt a bit like a zombie.. but definately no increased anxiety..
Amisulpride made me quite agitated and thous increased anxiety. Ziprasidone was neutral for me, but my ex girlfriend got very agitated!

Sorry don't have any experience with Zyprexa, but I think it would also be very calming. Don't know anything about Abilify..

Low doses of zyprexa helped my anxiety more than none. Low doses of abilify I'm not sure of. Abilify was all around bad for me. I did experience a lot of anxiety on abilify. Could have been from the lack of zyprexa.

I think abilify is more likely to cause anxiety

Abilify is more likely to cause akathisia, which may -feel- like anxiety, than Seroquel, say.

But it's hard to say about anxiety in general -- the D2/D2 agonism/antagonism of Abilify really didn't pan out that much.

The only one that I know that sometimes has a different reaction, supposedly, is Risperdal, where -very- low doses theoretically may increase D2.

Personally, the whole Risperdal trial for me was a disaster with nightmares. But that was for a different purpose. Your miles may vary.

I'm just trying my first AP - Seroquel for 4 weeks so far. My dose has been 50 up to 150mg. Which is in the low range. It's got rid of all anxiety at this dose, but left me very sedated & "flat". I think 100mg will do the job on anxiety also, and be a little less sedating, but not much!

Good luck to you!

There most certainly can be. Drugs with a strong D2 antagonism (Risperdal and Zyprexia, e.g.) cause me to jump out of my skin. Though the reaction there is more Akathisia.

Low-dose Seroquel sometimes makes me a little anxious and jumpy after the sedative effect wears off - maybe 12-16 hours after a dose.
