I just came off of 60mg of Cymbalta. I cut down over two weeks and then stopped it. I have had no ill effects with the exception of being intensely suicidal. I am waiting to try parnate.

Sorry to hear you're still feeling so badly. I wasn't on Cymbalta long enough to feel too much withdrawal..have you contacted your doctor..I usually take a bit more of a benzo when I'm withdrawing..scary what can happen with these meds.

I agree with going slowly on stopping it. I made the mistake of going from 60mg to zero over a week using a smaller number of granules from the capsule everyday. However, after 4 days I was climbing the walls and my friends were really concerned about me, I was almost at the point of going to the local Psych Hospital and asking to be admitted. I became an emotional wreck, and have since gone back to fluoxetine 60mg a day.
If you feel you are likely to need to keep taking anti-d's it might be better to do a direct swap. I have done this many times with different drugs, the closest analogy would be Efexor. I stopped it one day and started paroxetine the following day and I got no withdrawl symptoms. But when I tried stopping Efexor slowly again it was hellish.
Sometimes taking a large dose of fluoxetine say 60mg and then reduing this over 3-4 days until you stop can help more than tapering the duloxetine, so I have heard. It is similar to the Valium and Ativan situation with half-lives.
I have been on anti-d's since 1992 so I can't see me ever being without them now. I remember when I got my first script for Seroxat/Paxil and was told it was not addictive, little did they and I know.

Hi Philipa
Parnate did, the rest tricyclics/SSRI's/SNRI's just seem to take away emotion so you are not so sad or anything for that matter (I once told one Pdoc that if someone told me when I was on paroxetine that my house had burned down, I have been made bankrupt and my family had all died in a tragic accident I would have shrugged my shoulders and said "whats for lunch". I have put on a lot of weight) rather than not being depressed, if that makes any sense.

I got diagnosed with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia a few years ago and since then my Doctors have been too scared to let me have an MAOI.
Also, I had on spontaneous hypertensive reaction on Parnate and I had to tell the Doctor in the A&E Dept. (you would call it the ER) what was happening, he did not have a clue. They then tried to inject me with tramadol, which would have given me serotonin syndrome on top and killed me, or i would have ended up in the ICU and had the cheek to complain when I refused the injection. At that point i was discharged still with hypertension as I think they were too scared to do anything, which by the time I got home was even worse. I then took a nifedipine capsule and it was gone in 15 minutes, I should have done that at the very beginning and not went near the Hospital.
It was not a pleasant experience, the worst headache I have ever had, it took me a good 5 days to recover fully.
